A meeting of tbe citizens of Dar
lington was held in the Court House
on Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock
to take such action as would show
to tbe Genera’ Assembly the many
and vital obj^ctlm s to cutting off
any portions of Darlington County,
for tbe purpose of fotmiuga new
county. Messrs. W. C. Coker, E.
R. Mclver aud Geo. W. Brown
were appointed a committee to go
to Columbia at once aud present
this matter to tbe Legislature iu its
proper light.
Doc Robinson, a negro from
Florence, said to be a brother of
tbe man who was recently lynched
in that town, broke into Hannah
Robinson’s restaurant, near Kal-
mua ft Rosenberg’s store on Pearl
Street, on tbe night of December 3.
and stole nearly everything tbe old
lady bad. It was bis intention to
open a restaurant for himself with
Annt Hannah’s goods, bat fortu-
nateiy lor her, the officers of tbe
law, discovered Doo, and after a
visit to Trial Justice Dargau, he
proved to be such an interesting
personage that they concluded to
give him free meals and lodging at
Darlington County sent 24 con
victs to tin* Penitentiary during tbe
past fiscal year.
On the n ght of December 6th,
Messrs. J E. Richards and Jim
Wilson, occupying om* of Hie Irout
rooms in Mrs. E. T. Fladgor*’board
ing hou«e in Florence, were roused
from their sleep by three masked
men iu the room standing around
the bed. One ot them had bis band
on tbe throat of Mr. Wilson, which
orevented him from making any
sound. He was bonud, both bands
and feet, had a handkerchief tied
over bis mouth and was taken from
the bed aud placed on bis trunk in
this con lit ion. Mr. Richards bad
evidently been drugged, but as it
did not have the desiicd effect be
started fiom his bed and was cov
ered by a pistol, iu the bauds of
one of the burglars. He attempted
to take the pistol from the man, but
was overcome and forced to keep
quiet at the peril ot Ids life. The
three men a ter huding tht* keys tc
the trunks, went coolly to work and
took everything of value that they
coaid find. Mr. Wilson’s two rings,
Mr. Richards’ watt b and all the
money of both were taken. They
inquired it there was any one else
iu the bouse who had money aud it
is supposed they would .have gone
further, but lor tbe fact that some
one in another part of the house
got u t i just about that time and they
made off. Mr. Richards untied Mr.
Wilsen and they went back to bed
and said nothing of what had oc
curred until next morning. There
is no clue as yet to wbe the burg
