As the Senate wae not in session on Saturday, Monday or Tuesday, Col. Edwards came over to spend the time with his family, and the Editor ot the News took advau tage of his presence iu town to have achat with him ou the*more impor tant issoea now pending before the . Legislature. Col. Edwards thinks ‘ that, while tbe vote will be close iu the Senate, tree tuition in the South Carolina College is virtually dead. He a so thinks thata law eatabliah- ing a separate Agricultural College of some kiad will be enacted in tbe near future, and be is in favor of Senator Woodward’s idea, with some modification, of placing a State tax on dogs. Our Senator believes that the time has come for the calling of a Consutiitienal Convention, and that a bill will pasa the Legislature to thateftect. The bill to ab oish the salary of 11,000, now received by the Licutei ant Governor has p>ss ed the House, has beeu unanimous ly recommended by the Judicary Committee of the Senate, ami Col". (From tbe Turkalooea Tim ».} On Saturday afternoon, Nov. 20 1886, Mrs. Minnie Lawrence Brown was buried at Evers.reei Cemetery iu this city. The impressive-funer al services were cam noted at the Baptist Church, by the Reverends Messrs. Dill and Monk This simple announcement will shock many ot the friends of the subject of this notice, for this is a loss that was entirely unexpected. The death occurred at Atlanta, Ga., w here she was being treated for an affection of the throat. A lane concourse of our people assembled at the church to pay the last sad rites to the deceased. The coffin and grave were almost hidden un der the many flowers gathered by loving fingers. A large list of friends mourn her loss,—a list which was begun in childhood,—continued during the •lays of the maiden’s life,—and so increased, by the time that w oman hood’s years were readied, that i* numbered almost all our people. The reason for this w ts, that she was one of the most stately s.nd beautiful ot the creatures of our Maker, and not less lovely was her character. She was noted.for her kind and tender disposition, and her firm and steadfast devotion to her friends. Nature had endowed her with a magnificent voice, which was regularly used iu her Maker’s worship while she was a resident ot the city. This loss falls upon all—but chief ly upon a di voted husband, loving mother, a. d two brothers with whom we deeply sympathize in their great affliction.
