Gen. J. B. Nettles, one of the
oldest citizens of our county, died
at his home near Damascus Church,
on Friday at the age ot 82. He
was buried at the Methodist Ceme
tery, at Darlington on Saturday.
A special meeting of the Coun
ty Board of Equalization will be
held at the Auditor's office on
Tuesday, March 30. See official
notice to which the attention of
property owners is called.

stroyed when the store was burnt
together with the oaks on that side
of the square We suggest that
Darlington oaks be replanted at
once.
Our postoffice has been fit ted up
with a set of 27 boxes and 6 draw
ers, Yale patent lock. They are
fitted up in the front window of tbe
office ami have all been taken.
Tiny will be very convenient to the
renters, ami have long been needed
in onr office.
A number of the colored citizens,
of the town are about to organize
a stock company for purchasing a
lot and erecting a handsome build
ing to be used as stores and a hall.
The prospects for the success of
tbe company are good as they have
commenced tbe matter in proper
form to command success.

The Darlington Guards met in
the Armory Friday night Four ao-

The Darlington Manutacturing
Company appears to be in a flour
ishing condition. All of the ma
chinery is at work with a well or
ganized force. Four styles of cot
ton goods are manufactured, and
tbe Mill has orders ahead’ for all
tbe goods than the Mill will pro
duce, and there is an upward tend
ing in the prices for their goods.
The goods are shipped as fast hb
made. Since the recent fire in the
basement, a change has been made
in tbe position of some of the ma-
ebiuery, which will prevent a fire
from the same cause in tbe future.

of the proposed monument to Gen.
R. E. Lee, at Richmond, Va., to

Hon. Jno. J. Murray, general
