have been attributing unworthy motives to
us for using our discretion in rejecting or
accepting matter for publication. We want
it distinctly understood that truth is our bea

to arrive at the truth, there is a better way

Since being permitted to examine the
Report of the (; rand Jury more carefully,we
notice alterations made in pencil which we
overlooked at first. As our synopsis is'accbr
dihg to the original, and the pencil altera
tions make a difference in meaning, we will
give them here, and leave ty to the public to
divide which'is the true version, the pencil
alterations or tho oiighlal writing of the
Committee.

The County Question.
The Conservatives having no ticket in the
field it is evidently their duty to decide be
tween the best of tho two Republican tickets
put forward. The question now resolves
i tself into this: If an honest Republican and
a dishonest one are candidates for office, shall
we quietly stand aside and let the dishonest
one beat, or step forward and lend a helping
hand to tho honest one? One or the other
is obliged to be elected. We don't think
there is any room for doubt in the mind of
any intelligent man.
The People's Republican Ticket is a vast
improvement on the Regular Ticket, and as
there is no Conservative ticket, and it is too
late as well as bad policy to complicate mat
tors now, wc think the best thing the Conser
vatives can do, is to vote for the most honest
Republicans nominated, and'thereby show
that they arc always ready to aid every laud
able effort to secure honesty without regard
to party or color. The Sheriffs election is
special and Cain will bo elected ?anyhow.
The following is tho People's Republican
ticket, which wc think decidedly better than
the Regular one:
