The Conservative State Convention
having made no nomination for Gov
ernor, our only choice is between the
two Republican' candidates Green or
Chamberlain.
Basing our action upon the past re
cord of tho two men, we decide unhes
itatingly in favor of tnc former, and
think every lover of good government
will do the same.
Generals Kershaw and McGowan
have been nominated for Congress in
their respective Districts, and will be
? elected, if the Conservatives do their
. duty.
We are requested to invite all per
sons who have suffered wrong from
auy official misconduct on tho part of
I any County officer, to give information
of the same to the Orauge Township
Tax Union.
We are requested by tho Board of
Directors to state.that theTournameut
at the Fair will come off on Wednes
day morning November 14th. Knights

It is reported that some colored men
at Anderson C. H, said,that "they did
not know that Chamberlain was so
much to blame, until he tried to prove
himself clear of all them bonds that he

mon? at the Baptist church on Sunday
night, tnat we have hoard for some
tua*. Rev. A. P. Norris, the pastor,
wlio has bebn holding a protracted
meeting, baptized five young persons
after the sermon. We are gratified to
record this awakening of ". the good
npirit in our midst, and hope it will con
tinue.

tures upon tho most approved style.
Whoever wants a good picture, will
remember the day, as it is very impor
taut we should all "see ourselves us
others see us," and Echard is just the
artist who can effect this much desired
result. He has been among us'before
and is very favorably known.
We call attention to the notice in
another column of the opening of the
Orangeburg Agricultural and Median
icul Fair. The officers deserves much
credit for the zeal they have exhibited
in making it a success. The last Fair
reflected great credit upon the people
of our count}, and we have reasons to
believe that the present will do the
same, if not more. Let it be the pride
of all our citizens to make it exceed
our brightest anticipations. It opens
on the 3rd of November.

Republican County, Convention.
We nro indebted to.a kind fricEd
for a very graphic description of the
so-called Republican (Jonvention which
met here last week, but as we do not
think the subject worthy of so extend
ed a notice, and our space is limited,
we hope he will pardon us for using his
report to make up a condensed state
ment, which we suppose the public will
expect.
It appears that S. L. Duncan was
made chairman, aud R. Turner and'
V. D. Bowman Secretaries. With
these officers the Convention went to
work, and after turmoil enough to
have nominated six Presidents, brings
out the following charming ticket:

We don't believe that this ticket re
flects the views even of the' Republik
cans of Orangeburg, and "Regular" as
it is. the indications are that it will be
repudiated by the best of them, in spite
of the party lash. As a whole it can
not command respect and confidence.
If the Independent Republicaus will
make up something better, we think
they can count on the Conservative
support.
