Murder.
. Russell Wilson and Jellry Ilurscy,
^ both colored men of Lomsville, who had
been on bad terms for some time, had a
dispute about some hind. On Friday
night Jeff was fired at through the cracks
of his house, by someone out sjde, and
hud his head pertly shot olr, causing in

Of course knocked the bills receivable
of the Republican printing company down
to forty and fifty cents, and Lies miskka
ulks were happy to unload at that. Tbc
ring had its agents out meanwhile, and
on Monday the "little game" was up; the
injunction was removed, of covrsc; and

Incendiarism
On Sunday evening between six and
seven o'clock, a lire was discovered in a
lot of seven bales of cotton belonging to,
and stored on the premises of Murray
Robinson Esq. The. help offered by the
neighbors saved three bales in n pjU?y
damaged state. The lire was tho work
of an incendiary, nstho ties had been re
moved to loosen the lint in the bales,
thereby to ensure . its destruction. The
villain .we hope will come to justice.

this notice of our schools, wo do not idly
refer to a system which prevails so largely

instructors. First in order of establish
ment is the school of Miss Rebecca S.
Albcrgotti devoted exclusively to girls,
nnd little boys. Miss A's experience h
based upon the normal system so prcy<
hint at the north and Charleston, and is
both exciting and stimulating, whijc it
devclopcsthe talent of the pupil ton
thoroughness of drill and comprehensive
ness of study.' Miss Albcrgotti's school
opened this session with a most flattering
number of scholars, and is gradually re
ceiving new comers. The Orangebiirg
academy situated on Now Street is under
the direction of Jas. S. Heyward Esq.,
assisted by Miss Fogartic, a young lady
who bus had long experience in leaching.
Here the English and classical depart
ments, with Mathematical and comntei
eial training are under the Principal. Tho
department for,girls, together with Music
is under the care of Miss Fogartic. 'Ibis
Academy is daily growing in patronage.
Mr. S. It. Mcllichamp's academy is locat -
ed under the Duke's' hotel on Russell St.
Mr. M. has hud a tested cxpe: ienco at
the desk, nnd until recently was an usso
ciulu of Mr. Ileyward. Here also the I
higher urni).?be.- of Classical and Mathe
matical studies are pursued, and young
ladies etui bo instructed in music. Mr. M
opened tins .-c.-.-i.n "with an encouraging
number of pupils, am! his roll is swelling.
We heartily commend these, schools to

as they deserve to be, both from their
moral and intellectual worth,
