It vilj I speak lor itself. t--7' Judge Graham arrived on the up trnm of Wednesday, and immediately wiMit to. business. The Judge mot thti misfortune, within a lew days past, of the dentil of his mother, which detained Iiis earlier arrival. B*2U The recent issue, of South Caro lin-! Railroad fare tickets, so closely re sontbliii^ a bank note, met with a doubt ful recept'on by the people. We are in formed thai this class of currency is good for nriy\d.ucs to the railroad, and is cur rently received in trade. , JSr. Z. E. Hyde It is be in Orangoburg this week, to pay .the highest prices lor cotton. Our County Commissioners *; Are invited to notice communication of "Subscriljor,y whose buggy was nearly broken at the Big Lake Bridge. The Fair Building Vviil be finished in ample time, by the .contractor, Mr. Kansdnlc. A coat of white paint is now being put on, and will much improve the building. The Night Police Have been quite/successful in arrest ing those "who make, night hideous."? ^Thc Mayor's Court in consequence, ben efit the town exchequer. The night po ^co is a first rate, and a long-needed, in stitution. Dancing; School. We call attention to advertisement of M?ns. Borger, who will open a dancing jfschool on the Iptb iu.-t. M?ns. B. is well known throughout the Slate as an ^flicient teacher of dancing. Cull at Meroney's Ilotcl on the 1 Ith insfc. Southern Manufacture. Engine No. 26 passed our depot on [Wednesday morning in charge of Mr. Reevos, who is reported to be a skillful uacltinest ojid runner. This locomotive was built entire at the sluqw in Charles ton. The finish is elaborate ami first* class. The power of I he Engine is fully up to any of the size constructed by Baldwin ar Rogers. In fact, the whole work is a success, ? proof of how .money can he snvctl, and how a reputation. for self-reliauco has hcoh hitherto comprotu-1 iscd by Southern Mechauics. -m? ? tm "Death of an old Citizen. Wo regret to record the death, on Wednesday last, of Mr. Jno Sifloy, an aged and highly respected citizen of | this town. He was the father of tho Rev. J. Jj. Sifloy, the well known Meth odist Minister. The Monthly Parade Of the Young American Fire Engine Co..| took jdacc on Tuesday afternoon, 7th iust. The day was very windy, and sug gestive of fires, but hp opportunity? was afforded the Young Americas of distin guishing themselves. The Mayor's Court Is getting to be a terrible plaee for the noisy nn'd obstreperous. Harmless di versions (hitherto enjoyed) sue!', as curs ing and pistol firing, are e-pocially looked after. The cost of this aniuscmcut va ries from $2 to or a sei^c in the cas tle. The Mayor likes order and he will have it. All will be better pleased bye and bye, both the rolicsome wight, and the argus eyed police. Postponed. We learn from the Rev. N. R. Ful ler, that the convocation of Protestant ! Episcopal clergymen, published to be hchl on the 10th in this place,'has been postponed. Due notice will bo given through the paper, when the meeting will take place. # Charleston- "News & Courier" please copy. Runaway. Tho team of Mr; Gco. II. Cornolsou, not fancying the unseasonably cold wind, started at a run, on Tuesday last, up Market street, and turning into Russell, opposite store of Mr, D. Louis; took a bee-line for Establishment of Mr. Eight foot and when stopped, seemed about to dash into his front door. Nobody hurt. "Hogs." No less than five bogs were engaged in sapping and mining a garden fence on Rtisscll Street, one day of last week. Hog y.o. 1 put in a scooter, No. 2 fol lowed with a half shovel, turning things finely. Nos. 3, d, and 5 succeeded in systematic order, beating tho Watt pie ugh out of sight. The sidewalk was ripped up for fifty Hot or more, and tho paling was going through a "jolly -hake" when last we saw it. Sales-Day. Last .Monday combined the double at traction of Sales-day and the commence ment of Court. A crowd gathered early, and were treated, as usual, with the Oyez, Arc, ending with the consoling news to jurors, and all interested, that they could ride a few more miles, go home, and on Wednesday next, return again. This is hard upon tho farmer, whose short crop wants his personal at tention. Bui as the order of the day is, to be "ridden over," let him get up pa tience and reins and ride it over again, and not fail to bo here on Wednesday, under a penalty, &c. K':f),? Sooner er later all will be forced to admit, that manual labor cannot com pete in quality of w?l k with machinery, and none are so blind as not to notice the great rcduu^ipn in the price of an ar ticle, as soon as machinery is adapted to its manufacture. No line of goods have boon more favorably, affected by skilfully made machinery, than Doors, Sashes, Blinds, &c. All ol the improve ments in this line are used to get up stock for Messers. I. II.
