MR. WESLEY SNELL
Agnin we nro called upon to announce
the death of another citizep. Mr. Wes
ley Snell was bitten ou^ the 9th instant,
? b) a rattle-snake pilot, but Dr. W. S.
Barton being promptly called in, strong
hopes were entertained of his recover}'.
These worn delusive; however,,?^ on Sat
i urday morning it became evident that
he could ?iot l!yo, and at 10 his spirit
passed ;4<vay. Although, death is always
painful to contemplate, yet it is singular
l^ so' 'untfei/ "ofroumstiinftes- like these,
when its victim was in the full vigor of
manhood, and lull of bright hopes for the
future.' His relative? liave our deepest
sympathy".' Mr. S!icll*s funeral took
place 6n Suriday l?sl, and was nttended
by a large nunib^r .of Jiis friends and
? Connections.' ........
SAD DEATH. .
The funeral services of the onljv re
maining child of Mr. and Mrs. G. M.
Girardoau, was held yesterday morn tug,
at the Presbyterian churcli.' The sym
pathies of the entire comrauuity arc with
the (bereaved parents, who have lost'their
little ones, one, by one, and are now left
childless. On Saturday last, Mr Girar
deau'receivod qr telegram from Ncwbcr
ry, announcing the death of his oldest
child, and ort" yesterday,'tho last and
youngest (Hugh iv.) was consigned to
tlic to tab. No words ot ouv.s can soothe
sorrows such as these,' dlL aid must come
from "Him who .dopth all things well"
Und never "willingly afflicts the children
of men."
MOSES M. BROWN.
Do you wish to get shaved by an hon
est man? Call upon the modest indi
vidual, who docs business under the
above name, whose Harber Shop may
be found on Market-Street, in the South
cast (front) room of the dwelling of Mr..
Joseph Straus. By profession a barber
(from childhood, he tells us), having
served several generations, this good old
man has taken up his abode with us, and
can be found at all hours at his post.?
His sign, which is tacked up within his
shop, contains but a single word?suffi
cient, though, to show that in his estab
lishment, things aro done up "Brown."
We nro requested to enquire about
the "Goat "Law." Tho marshall has a
chanco to put it in force, for the benefit
of those annoyed.
^gX- Monday last was a hot day, so hot
that we saw a churn of ico cream arrest
ed on the public street, and made to dis
gorge its refrigerating content? foT the
,i)Ouofit,pf a- couple of gentlemen, "who
had caved under the ardent rays of the
Sun. In tho midst of this close intense
hheat, wheu only the jflies .wore buzzing,
and tho horses' .stumping, wo heard a
fiound j it was what was intended for a
bell, its melancholy clank canio nearer,
until wo beheld a banner, uipo& which
was Set forth in fantastic stylo of letter
ing and colorrrrg.- "Italian "Wizard."?
The cracked bell clanked louder, and ,
.the bannef moved on, but an old neigh

and intruders.. remarkedj'/'wo've had Iwo"

CORONER'S "INQUEST. ?
On Friday morning last, an inquest
was held by Coroner Mays, over tho body
of a white woman, named Elizabeth Wil
liamson, who'had been living upon the
Trcadwell property, near the depot.?
Her death oocurrcd so suddenly on Thurs
day night, that it was feared there had
been some foul play. . A post-mortem
examination by Drs. Elliott & Sally
! showed that there were?no' grounds for
this supposition.
DR. A. C. D?KES.
The warm weather of the past week
has been strongly suggestive of Soda?
water.. You can satisfy yourself at the
Drugstore of Dr. A. C. Dukes, and
turning round, can find medicines to cure
all diseases that flesh is heir to.
Dr. D. keeps capjtal cigars, too, and
a stock of fresh ?candies,' even better
than the cigars.
