We congratulato Messrs. Browning
& Browning upon their removal from
"Rogues' Row."
We see from the "Charleston News"
that tho statement that Mr. T. H. Cook
had been appointed Solicitor for Charles
ton county, has been contradicted by
Judge Graham.
At the meeting of the Survivors' Asso

was elected to deliver the 2d anniversary
address before tho Association.
The advantages of such an institution
as the Citizen's Savings Bank, in our
midst, is of no small importance, as it
nll'ords our only banking facilities and
means of deposit.
On Saturday evening last, Russell
Street was the rccne of a hand-to-hand
combat which "almost caused the blood
to How." Result: One of the pugilists
left the field with several slight wounds.
"Rogues' Row" well deserves so appro"
priate a name. The State robbed thou*
sands of dollars worth of land from its
poverty-stricken citizens on last Monday
and Tuesday. The ".quasi" sale lor taxes
took place in "Bugiies* Row."
M vjsrs Browning and Browning have
removed their law office from the Court
House square, and are now to be found
at the office formerly occupied by I enry
Ellis, Esq, and later by W. J. DeTre

A. C. Di.ke's>Dri'tr Store.
Work ha-- hoch commenced <;ii the El

that it will be pin bed to completion as

improvement. We will speak upon this
subject more at length, at sonic future

Cotton States Life Insurance Com
pany.?Wc take pleasure in calling the
readers attention to the card of Messrs.
Abncy & Parker in this issue. These
gentlemen have formed a partnership as
general State agents, with their head
quarters in Columbia, for tho transaction
of the increasing business of the above
named popular Life Insurance Company.
The Cotton States is one among the best
companies in existence, nnd has the great
merit of being a Southern Company.

So thinks our notably notorious friend,
George W. Sturgeon, whom wc are called
upon to again chronicle as "gone up" to
the upper story of the county jail. He
was committed last evening by Trial
Justice J. Felder Meyers, on a charge of
forging an order for $137 on the County
Treasury. AY hen last heard from he is
reported as having tears in his eyes.

Resolutions from the Young / nterica,
| presented by Mr. J. AY. Moeely, their
President, were read, having reference
j to an adjustment of a certain "Bond''
which our city fathers held against their
company, and which po doubt will soon
he amicably adjusted.
An able and rull report, was read from
an active and very efficient board of
health, relating to the sanitary regula
tions of our beautiful and growing town,
replete with wholesome suggestioa,
which wo hope our "City Fathers"
will adopt'and enforce. To the Health
Hoard was added the names of Dr. M. (??
Sal ley, Samuel Dibble, Esq. Mortimer
Glover, Esq. and Joseph McNamara.
Mr Joseph Stroits, asked Council's
consent to the erection of a portable Steam
Engine, with a rice beating machine at
tached; the location to be on the lot lately
owned by Mr. VY. D. Oliver, on Middle
ton Street.
A protest signed by a large number of
citizens, objecting to the opening of new
streets, was read and caused considerable
discussion. The clerk said he was sorry
j to witness tho opposition to public im
provement, but thought this great array
of signatures from influential citizens up
on this vitally inportnnt subject, should
have some consideration before that body;
that he had respect for" those fellow
citizens who did sign it, and as a repre
sentative of this pcopie was willing and
ready to submit this matter, in settlement
to the popular vote of the people of the
town.
He offered the following resolution:
"that an election be held in the
Town of Orangeburg * * * that the
question be submitted to tho people:
"Shall the New Street be opened or not?"
The question receiving the largest num
ber of votes shall declare the voice of
this community, and shall be final. There
was no second to the icsolution, conse
quently it was lost. We understand that
arrangements are being made to com
mence work on the street proposed to bo
run to the'depot from the Court House.

by tho Malaria of miasmatic countries.
No one remedy is louder called for by the

wo are now enabled to offer, with a perfect

and with assurance, founded on proof, that
no harm can arise from iu uso in any quan
tity.
That which protects from or prcvonts this
disorder must f>e of immense Ecrvicc In the
communities where it prevails. Prevention is
better than euro, fur tho patient escapes the
risk which he must run hi violent attacks of
this baleful distemper. <Thig "Core" expels
tho miasmatic poison of Fevbb and Ague
from the system and prevents tho develop
ment of the disease, if taken on the first ap
proach of its premonitory symptoms. It is
not only the bast remedy ever yet discovered
for this class of complaints, but also the
cheapest. The large quantity we supply for
a dollar brings it within the reach of every
body; and iu bilious districts, where Fever
and Ague prevails every body should have it
and uso it freely both for cure and protection.
It is hoped this price will place it within tho
reach of all?tho poor as well as the rich. A
great superiority of this remedy over any
other over discovered for the speedy and cer
tain cure of Intcrmittcnts is, the' it contains
Do Quinine or mineral, consequently it pro
duces no quinism or other injurious effects
whatever upon tho constitution. Those cured
by it are left as healthy us if they had never
had the disease.
Fever and Aguoin not nlone the consequence
of the miasmatic poison. A grcut variety of
disorders orifc from its irritation, among which
aro Neuralgia, Rheumatism, Gout, Headache,
Blindnoss, Toothache, Earache, Catarrh, Asth

Spleen, Hysterics, Pain in the Bowels, Colic,
Paralysis, and Derangement of the Stomach,
all of which, when originating in this cause,
put on the intermittent type, or become period
ical. This ?? Cure " expels the poison from
the blood, and consequently cures them nil
alike. It is an invaluable protection to immi
grants and persons travelling or temporarily
residing in the malarious districts. If taken
occasionally or daily while exposed to the in
fection, that will be excreted from the system,
and cannot accumulate iu sufficient quantity
to ripen into disease. Hence it is even moro
valuable for protection than cure, and few will
ever suffer from Intcrmittcnts, if they avail
themselves of the protection this remedy af
fords.
Ayer's Cathartic Pills,
FOR ALL THE PURPOSES OF A FAMILY PHYSIC,
arc so composed that disease within the range of
their action can rarely withstand or evade them.
Their penetrating properties search, and cleanse,
and invigorate every portion of the human organ
ism, correcting its diseased notion, and restoring
its healthy vitalities. As a consequence of theso
properties, the invalid who is bowed down with
pain or physical debility is astonished to ?ud bis
health or energy restored by a remedy at once so
simple ami inviting.
Not onlv do they cure the every-day complaints
of every body, but also many formidable and
dangerous diseases. The agent below named 19
pleased to furnish gratis mv Amcriean Almanac,
j containing certificates of their cures and directions
for their use in the following complaints: Costive

Inaction of'the Vowels, Flatulency, J.oxx of Appe

arising from u low state of the body or obstruction
of its functions. They arc an excellent alterative
for the renovation of the blood and the restora

So wide is the fit Id of its usefulness and so.nu

every section of country abounds in persons pub
licly known, who have been restored from alarming
and even desperate diseases of the lungs by its
Use. When once tried, its superiority o\cr every
other medicine of its kind is too apparent to escape
observation, and where its virtues are known, the
public no longer hesitate what antidote to employ
for tlic distriusiug and dangerous affections of the
pulmonary organs that are incident to our climate.
While many inferior remedies thrust upon the
community have failed and been discarded, this
has gained friends by every trial, conferred benefit*
on the alllictcd they can never hfrgct, and pro
