Select Tree That Suits Need For the family, especially the family with young children, noth ing can replace the traditional Christmas tree, decorated as they have always done it. Select a bushy green evergreen, equipped with stand that will hold water. If the children have grown and gone or you are living in a small apartment, buy a small evergreen and use a deep vase on top of a chest. This may be the solution for newlyweds who can’t get home for Christmas or for a widow too. Decorate it to suit your taste and put presents around it. Your own little tree will add a bit of cheer. Buy an ivy tree from your florist for use in a one room apartment. Decorate it with tiny balls from the dime store - this will make a useful table decor ation and the ivy tree itself will last for several months after Christmas as a green plant. In recent years St. Nick has gone quite modern by arriving from his home at the North Pole in different manners. In many cases he seems to w r ant to leave his eight reindeer and sleigh at home, and use a new method of transportation. Cities, all over the country, vie with each other in finding novel ways to bring him to the communities. Not long ago Santa arrived in Chicago by parachute; he was luckier that year than a St. Nick who tried the same method in Florida, but got caught in some wires when making his descent. At one naval station Santa thrilled the youngsters as he stepped from a helicopter, carry ing a big bag of presents. When he arrived in a DC-6 escorted by fighter planes at Lockheed Air terminal a crowd of 25,000 people gave him a rousing welcome. At cities on the seacoast, he has arrived by boat, elsewhere, fire trucks, mule drawn wagons, old fashioned stagecoaches - all have been used for his transpor tation.
