Keep the chill off this holiday with hot drinks old and new. If preparing the drinks for company, you can have the mugs set out with their spices in advance, then complete the drinks with the addition of warmed flavorings and boiling water. HOT BUTTERED RUM 2 whole cloves IV2 ounces light rum 2 whole allspice Vz oz. dark rum A short stick cinnamon A teaspoon butter or margarine A teaspoon sugar Ground cinnamon - optional Boiling water Put the cloves, allspice, stick cinnamon and sugar in mugs or glass and add a tablespoon or two of the boiling water. Combine the rums in a small saucepan and heat but do not boil. Pour rums into spice mixture, filling mug or glass with boiling water and immediately add butter. Sprinkle with ground cinnamon if wanted. 1 serving. With 1973 What Does the Future Promise? lt*s hardly possible to be indifferent about the New Year. Watch Your Purse, Lady While Shopping Pickpockets and purse snatch ers operate at peak activity dur ing the holidays, lured by crowd ed stores and shoppers with extra money. Pickpockets find it easy to steal handbags that hang from the shoulder or wrist. Extra- large handbags favored by sonic women are especially tempting targets. Too, many women keep their wallets or coin purses at the top of their bag, which makes them most accessible for a thief. When you are in a crowd, police advise that you hold your pocket- book tightly by the clasp.
