Martin, Sr., 76, died Saturday morning at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital after several years of declining health. He was born and reared in Newberry County and was the son of the late Patrick and Eli zabeth Hamm Martin. He had made his home in the Fairview section of the county and was very active in the community center; the fire dept., was a member of Macedonia Lutheran Church and was a retired farm er and cattle dealer. He was twice married, first to Mrs. Mary Moore Martin, and then to Mrs. Thompsie Wise Martin. Surviving are five sons, Cur tis Martin, Prosperity, Ellis Martin, Hyattville, Md., H. C. Martin Jr., W. E. Martin, and R. Harry Martin, all of Pros perity; one daughter, Mrs. Ka tie M. Renfro, Houston, Texas; 20 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday from Mace donia Lutheran Church with Rev. C. L. Richardson conduct ing the services. Burial follow ed in the church cemetery. day afternoon at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital. Bom in Newberry, she was a daugh ter of the late George Bach man and Millie Frances Adams Cromer. She was a retired tex tile employee, a member of O’Neal Street United Methodist Church, and a member of the Bernice Martin Bible Class. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Frances Bertha Bowers of Pros perity; a brother, J. Forrest Cromer of Newberry, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday from O’Neal Street United Methodist Church with Rev. R. Hilton Johnson and Rev. John Koch conduct ing the services. Burial was in Prosperity Cemetery. Miss Lula Cromer Miss Lula L. Cromer, 78, cf 515 Wright Street, died Satur Mrs. Lola DeHart Mrs. Lola Bishop DeHart, 87, widow of Charles Simpson De Hart, died early Monday morn ing at the J. F. Hawkins Nurs ing Home after a lingering ill ness. Mrs. DeHart was born in New berry County, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Tom Bi shop. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She is survived by three sons, Clarence B. DeHart of New berry, James L. Earl Girk Earl “Flop” Girk, 65, of Joan na died Friday. Bom in Newberry, a son of the late Frank H. and Annie Hahn Girk, he was a former employee of Joanna Mills and a World War II army veteran. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Atkins and Mrs. Mary Lou Rushton of Joanna; a brother, Charlie Girk of Ware Shoals. Postal service be suspended Christmas day The Newberry Post Office will be closed on Monday, De cember 25 in observance of Christmas Day. There will be no service whatsoever provided on this day. Eight cent and Airmail stamps are available from the stamp machine located in the lobby of the post office. Seek toys, food for distribution at Christmas Toys and food are needed by the Episcopal Churches and the Order of the Arrow for distri bution this Christmas. Please leave them at the Parish House on the corner of Main and Cal houn Streets. If is is for the Order of the Arrow, mark with the initials “OA”.
