FINLAND CHRISTMAS
Christmas in Finland is the
biggest holiday of the year.
It lasts from Christmas Eve
through St. Stephens Day, De
cember twenty sixth. In olden
days it lasted right up to
Twelfth Night, and even now
Twelfth Night is a holiday, not
so generally observed as the
two and a half days of Christ
mas, but still a holiday.
Small Presents Will
Please Most Adults
Although adults rarely hang a
stocking, small presents are use
ful for additional gifts under the
tree or when visiting on the holi
day. Welcome gifts for a man
would be a file box for collected
business cards, a personalized
coffee mug, a coin dispenser for
car tolls or a miniature stapler
for his briefcase.
A Mother might like a lace-
trimmed pincushion, a small tra
vel “freshen up” kit or a shower
hood that fits loosely over the en
tire head to protect hair and
makeup. Most of these prices will
vary depending on the area and
the store but none will be over
two dollars.
Cutting Costs On
Last-Minute Gifts
We never seem to have enough
money for the kind of Christmas
presents we want to buy - early
or late.
There are ways to keep cost
down, even without time for sew
ing or baking.
Give someone special an item
you already own which they have
admired.
Frame your children’s paint
ings for their grandparents.
Gift wrap a promise to a little
girl to make an outfit for her
Christmas doll.
Buy fruit and pack handsome
gift baskets using old baskets you
have spray painted.
Make attractive gift certificates
offering your services during the
coming year. Babysitting, chauf-
feuring or helping an elderly
friend with a spring garden are
only a few samples.
Alfred, Lord Tennyson
The time draws near the birth
of Christ:
The moon is hid; the night is
still;
Answer each other in the mist.
Four voices of four hamlets
round,
From far and near, on mead
and moor,
Swell out and fail, as if a door
Were shut between me and
the sound:
Each voice four changes on the
wind,
That now dilate, and now
decrease,
Peace and goodwill, goodwill
and peace,
Peace and goodwill, to all
mankind.
Our wish? The loveliest, merriest
Yule to you and the family. It’s
a pleasure knowing and serving you.
