The traditional red and green colors are used throughout the hall. 102 donate blood at college visit for Christmas Newberry Civic League has decorated the Newberry Com munity Hall with the traditional colors of red and green appro priate to this festive season of the year. The interior of the Commu nity Hall has been attractively decorated by Mrs. Steve C. Griffith, Mrs. Louis C. Floyd, and Mrs. Gordon N. Clarkson. They used green wreaths and green garlands containing red holly berries, red velvet bows, electric flickering candles, kis- same balls and golden bells, with red candles and bouquets of red carnations. Prof. F. Scott Elliott, Sr., and F. Scott Elliott, Jr., took charge of decorating the exterior of the building. They decorated the three doors opening upon the upstairs porch with cedar greenery and red ribbon bows and placed a colorful Della Robbia wreath on the center door. They also decorated the wrought iron railings around the porch and up the stairs with green garlands and red ribbon bows. Prof. F. Scott Elliott, Sr., pre sident of the Civic League, in vites Newberrians to come to see these deocrations at times when the Community Hall may be open during the Christmas season. Southwest is low timber bidder On November 14, 1972 the U.S. Forest Service awarded the South Creek Timber Sale to Southwest Forest Industries whose bid of $140,700.00 was the highest of three bids re ceived. Other bidders were Georgia Pacific Corporation and Newberry Lumber Company. National Forest timber is ad vertised and sold to the high est bidder. The net income from sales of National Forest timber is returned to the U. S. treasury and 25 percent of these funds are returned to the coun ties in which the National Fo rest is located. WATERCOLOR CLASSES BEGIN ON FRIDAY A six weeks course in water coloring will begin on Friday at Powerhouse. Time of classes will be 10 a.m. and Mrs. Genell Boozer will be the instructor. Over 100 Newberry College students and Newberry resi dents donated blood Monday afternoon when the South Caro lina Red Cross Bloodmobile vi sited the campus for its annual visit. The Blood Drive was spon sored by the College’s six so cial fraternities and sororities. “Although the visit was spon sored by students,” Chaplain Harry Weber, the coordinator of the project, commented, “we were pleased that 20 of the 102 donors were residents of New berry.” Chaplain Weber went on to say that he was parti cularly pleased that it was the Greek organizations at New berry who have taken the ini tiative for the past four years to sponsor the Bloodmobile visit to the College the Monday after Thanksgiving. “Too many times,” he added, “the frater nities and sororities are criti cized for being involved only in social activities. Monday’s visit was the fourth time since 1969 that over 100 persons have donated blood when the bloodmobile visited the campus. The Tau Kappa Epsilon fra ternity with 30 donors won the traveling trophy for having the most members give a pint of blood. PEAK CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING A Christmas tree lighting and carol sing will be held at Peak Sunday, December 3, at Peak Park. Her- The Annual Newberry Christ mas Parade under the sponsor ship of Newberry Rotary club will be held today (Thursday) beginning at 4 p.m. Participants are requested to be in assigned positions by 3:30 p.m. Parade marshals will be on hand to assist in locating the various units before the march. The group is composed of approximately 35 members ranging in age from 12 to 23, including an 8-piece or chestra. Director of the REALITY SEEKERS is Cecil Ringer.
