Stark Mrs. Dorothy Ora Wilson Stark 67, wife of the late R. J. Stark of Collierville Tenn. died Thursday at the Providence Hos pital in Columbia. Mrs. Stark was born and reared in Saluda County and was the daughter of the late Leonard W. and Lillian Crouch Wilson. She had made her home in Tennessee for a number of years and was a member of the United Methodist Church. Surviving are a son David M. Dominick, Memphis, Tenn.; a daughter Mrs. Dorothy D. Wil son Memphis Tenn.; a brother, Osborne L. Wilson, Silverstreet; three sisters Mrs. Amelia W. Kennemore, Ninety Six, Miss Sara Wilson and Mrs. Dessa W. Bum, both of Newberry; two grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Saturday at 4 p.m. from the McSwain Funeral Home, with Dr. John M. Younginer, Jr. and Dr. Henry A. McCullough con ducting. Burial was in Rose- mont Cemetery.' Mrs. Louise Motes Mrs. Louise B. Motes of New berry, wife of Rev. J. W. Motes, died Friday in St. Petersburg, Fla. Bom in Union she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Bentley. Surviving also are a daughter, Mrs. Ruby Watson of St. Petersburg, a son, James W. Motes of LaPlace, La.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildrei). Funeral services were held Monday at Whitaker Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Will iam Sorrow and Dr. Paul E. Grier. Interment was in Rose- mont Cemetery. Ernest Holloway Ernest W. Holloway, 64, of Chappells retired farmer and merchant died Friday. Born in Chappells, son of the late J. L. and Essie Holloway, he was a member of Chappells Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ethel Allen Holloway; a step son, David Allen of Ninety Six; a brother, Carl Holloway of Greenwood; and three step- grandchildren. Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Chappells Baptist Church cemetery. Andy Thornton J. Andy Thornton, 65, of 414 Perry Ave., Greenville, died Sat urday. Son of the late Judge Rice and Martha Davis Thornton of Newberry, he was a retired own er and operator of Thornton Tire Service, associated with Hunter Tire Service, a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Greenville Lodge No. 858, BPOE a former member of the Green ville Kiwanis Club, and a grad uate of Newberry College. Surviving are his wife Mrs. Rose Hinson Thornton, a son, Randy Hinson Thornton, Green ville; and a grandson. Funeral services were held Monday in Greenville and in terment was at 1 p.m. in Rose- mont Cemetery of Newberry. John A. Suit John Albert Suit, 51, of 424-C Woodland Ave., Myrtle Beach, died suddenly Sunday afternoon. Mr. Suit was bom and reared in Georgia, and was the son of the late Daniel James and Myra Anderson Suit. He had made his home in Newberry a num ber of years but at the time of his death was a resident of Myrtle Beach. He was a grad uate of Newberry College, a vet eran of WW II, and was an accountant. Surviving are his wife Mrs. Mary Louise Wood Suit, Myrtle Beach, three sons Daniel Colum bia Stanley Myrtle Beach, Stev en, Charlotte, N.C.; three bro thers, Orice and Rufus Suit, both of Newberry and Paul Suit of South Boston, Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Bland Berry of Newberry and Mrs. Lolita S. Perkins of Greenville, four grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 4 p.m. from Glenn Street Baptist Church with the Rev. James B. Mitchell and the Rev. Mr. Brown conducting. Ira T. Cousins Ira T. Cousins, 71, died Mon day morning at the Newberry County Memoorial Hospital. He was bom in Newberry, son of the late John H. and Ila Cromer Cousins. He was a farmer and fertilizer dealer, and was a member of The Lutheran Church of the Re deemer. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bernice McMicheal Cous ins; two sons, Warren R. Cous ins and Walter B. Cousins, both of Newberry; three daughters, Miss JoAnn Cousins of Norfolk, Va., Mrs. J. B. McMath of Alex* andria, Va. and Mrs. M. D. Campbell of Fitzgerald, Ga.; 5 brothers, J. R. of Chapin, H. B. of Columbia J. C. of Simpson- ville W. Marion of the Mer chant Marines in California and F. N. Cousins of Newberry; two sisters, Miss Narvice Cousins of, of Greenville and Mrs. E. B. Brehmer of Newberry; and 12 grandchildren. Funeral services were con ducted Tuesday at Whitaker Funeral Home by Dr. H. A. McCullough. Mrs. Sula Hawkins Mrs. Sula Taylor Hawkins, 91, widow of T. Gary Hawkins, died Tuesday night at the J. F. Haw kins Nursing Home after a lin gering illness. Mrs. Hawkins was bom in Newberry County, the daughter of the late Jefferson and Caro lina Rikard Taylor. She was op erator of the Newberry Tourist Home and was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeem er. She is survived by four sons, Furman E. Hawkins of Ware Shoals, Gary Fred Hawkins of Kingsport, Tenn., and Chester Hawkins and Hazel Hawkins, both of Newberry; two daugh ters, Mrs. Hoyt (Helen) Mor ris of Prosperity, Mrs. Ben (Ma bel) Chapman of Newberry; one sister, Mrs. Arthur (Love) Long of Newberry; fourteen grandchildren; 25 great- grand children and eight great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be con ducted at 11 a.m. today (Thurs day) at the Whitaker Funeral Home by Dr. H. A. McCullough and the Rev. J. Hilton Roof. In terment will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Grandsons will serve as ac tive pallbearers. Mrs. Schumpert Mrs. Gladys Berry Schumi> ert, 57, wife of Ray E. Schump ert, died Tuesday night at the Newberry County Memorial Hos pital. Mrs. Schumpert was bom in Edgefield County, the daugh ter of the late George and Lou- annie Rowe Berry. She was a member of O’Neal Street Un ited Methodist Church, Past De puty Grand Matron of District 6, Eastern Star; member of the American Legion Auxiliary and of the S. C. Law Enforce ment Auxiliary. Besides her husband she is survived by two brothers, Joe Berry of Louisville, Georgia and Ralph Berry of Greenwood and two sisters, Mrs. Vivian Mc- Intire of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Mrs. Alio A. Hall of Boul der, Colorado. Funeral services will be con ducted at 5 p.m. today (Thurs day) at O’Neal Street United Methodist Church by the Rev. Hilton Johnson and the Rev. J. Virgil Long. Interment will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be An drew Shealy, Terrell (Boots) Sease, Johnnie Stribbble, John Campbell, Phil Bouknight, Dal las Willingham, Eddie Corley and Willie Johnson. Whitaker Funeral Home in charge. Marvin R. Smith Marvin R. Smith, 47, died Wednesday morning at the New berry County Memorial Hos pital. Mr. Smith was bom in Ful ton County, Ga., the son of the late John Wesley and Lena Wehunt Smith. He was a retired employee of Newberry Mills. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Betty Holbert Smith; three daughters, Mrs. Barbara Suber and Mrs. Becky Brown, both of Newberry, and Mrs. Debra Moon of Columbia; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be con ducted today (Thursday) at 3 p.m. at the Whitaker Funeral Home by the Rev. John C. Mar tin. Interment will be in New berry Memorial Gardens. Bond sales continue up Combined E and H Savings Bonds sales for June in New berry County totalled $11,063 re ports Joe M. Roberts County Savings Bonds Chairman. In South Carolina, E and H Bond sales for June were $2,- 590,140, a 5 percent increase over June 1971 sales, according to Robert G. Clawson, State Chairman of the U. S. Savings onds Committee.
