Miss Farb and Mr. Fast are wed
in Lutheran Church rites Saturday
“Do you remember the time... ?” was asked over and over again
when the Summerland alumnae had their annual reunion at New
berry College on May 20. The former women’s college at Leesville
merged with Newberry College in 1931. Mrs. Waldo Huffman, the
president of the Summerland alumnae of Newberry, and Dr. Fre-
dric Irvin, the College’s president, take time to discuss the day’s
program. Dr. Irvin talked to the “Summerland Girls” following the
noon meal.
Miss Connie Eileen Farb and
Mr. Robert Kent Fast were
married at four o’clock in the
afternoon of May 27 at Luthe
ran Church of the Redeemer.
The bride is the daughter of
Dr. and Mrs. Robert C. Farb
of Newberry and the bride
groom is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Robert J. Fast of Sum
merville, S. C.
Dr. Henry A. McCullough,
pastor of Redeemer, and Dr.
Robert C. Farb, father of the
bride, officiated at the double
ring ceremony. Potted palms
and floral arrangements of yel
low and white chrysanthemums,
baby’s breath, and gladioli
created a lovely setting.
Miss Judy E. Farb, sister
of the bride, provided the or
gan music and also served as
honorary maid of honor. The
preludes included “Pasterole
in F” by J. S. Bach and “Toc
cata in E Minor” by Pachel
bel. The processional was “Je-
su, Joy of Man’s Desiring,”
by J. S. Bach and the reces
sional, “Thine Is The Glory”
by G. F. Handel. Ushers includ
ed Greg Blevins of Summer
ville, cousin of the groom, and
George Blancke of Brooklyn,
New York. Mr. Robert J. Fast,
father of the groom, served as
best man.
Mrs. Kennith E. Rutter of
Atlanta, Georgia, was her sis
ter’s matron of honor. Miss
Jane Fast of Summerville, sis
ter of the groom, and Miss
Debbie Goerss of Deltona, Flo
rida, were bridesmaids. The
attendants wore powder blue
formal gowns featuring empire
waits, short puffer sleeves, and
a wide ruffle around the bot
tom. Large white hats trim
med with blue ribbon comple
mented the dresses. The bodice
of each dress was trimmed
with white daisies and baby’s
breath with yellow ribbon
streamers.
Honorary attendants were
Miss Caroline Smith, Miss Pau
la Richardson, Miss Derryl Sat-
terwhite, and Miss Nancy Floyd
all of Newberry, and Miss Ca
rey Ellen Blevins of Summer
ville, cousin of the groom.
Each wore a yellow and white
carnation corsage.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, Dr. Farb, wore
a wedding gown and veil which
she designed and made her
self. Her gown of peau satin
and organza featured an em
pire waist, an A-line skirt, and
short puffed sleeves. Embroid
ered daisy trim accented the
bodice and the sleeves. The full
chapel length train was also
bordered with white daisies. A
waist-length veil of silk illusion
fell from a Juliet cap of peau
satin overlaid in organza and
trimmed with embroidered dais
ies. The bride carried a colo
nial nosegay of baby’s breath
and white roses.
The mother of the bride wore
a mint green dress with ac-
cordian-pleated chiffon sleeves
and a matching sleeveless coat.
The mother of the groom wore
a pink polyester dress with
long sleeves and trimmed with
embroidered pink lace. Each
mother wore a lavender oink
corsage. Mrs. Benjamin Bolen
of Summerville, maternal
grandmother of the g r o o m,
wore a blue dress and a cym-
bidium orchid corsage.
Immediately following the ce
remony, the bridal couple and
their parents received the
guests in the narthex of the
church. The bride’s parents en
tertained the guests at a recep
tion in the social hall of the
church. Mr. and Mrs.. C. M.
Smith welcomed the reception
guests and Miss Caroline Smith
presided at the guest register.
Receiving informally were the
Rev. and Mrs. Harry Weber
and Mr. and Mrs. J. Carol Wes-
singer. Arrangements of yellow-
throated orchids and fern adorn
ed the refreshment table and
the social hall. The bride’s ta
ble held a four-tiered wedding
cake decorated with white ros
es. The wedding cake was serv
ed after the couple cut the first
slice. Fruit punch, ham biscuits,
cheese cookies, chicken salad
sandwiches, butter mints, and
nuts were served buffet style
at the reception table. Mrs. Eu
gene C. Griffith poured the
punch and the bride’s honorary
attendants assisted with the
serving. The guests were en
tertained at the home of the
bride’s parents at a buffet sup
per following the reception at
the church. Mr. Arthur Fast of
Arlington, Virginia, paternal
grandfather of the groom, was
among the out-of-town guests.
The bride is a 1970 graduate
of Newberry High School and
attended Newberry College for
two years. The groom is a gra
duate of Summerville High
School and received a Bachelor
of Arts degree in political
science at Newberry College on
May 28. *
After the reception the couple
left for a wedding trip. The
bride wore a blue and white
knit suit and white accessories.
The couple will reside in
Georgetown, S. C., where the
groom has accepted a position
with the Regional Planning
Commission including three
coastal counties.
Meeting of UDC
chapter is changed
The Drayton-Rutherford Chap
ter UDC will meet Tuesday
June 6th at 4 p.m. at the home
of Mrs. R. B. Baker with Mrs.
R. P. Baker and Mrs. Walter
Summer as associate hostesses.
Please note the change in place
of meeting.
Parties honor
Newberrians
On March 11, Miss Connie
E. Farb and Miss Eleanor Bur
nette were honored with a
morning coffee at Smeltzer
Hall. Upon arriving the hono-
rees and their mothers were
presented lovely carnation cor
sages. An arrangement of white
mums and stock decorated the
coffee table which was filled
with delectable sandwiches, pas
tries, and meat balls.
The hostesses, Mrs. Gordon
Henry, Mrs. T. P. Crooks,
Mrs. Conrad Park, Mrs. Phil
lip Kelly, Mrs. James Abrams,
Mrs. Harry Weber, and Miss
Hattie Belle Lester presented
each bride-elect with a silver
bread tray. Out-of-town guests
included Mrs. Robert J. Fast
of Summerville, mother of the
groom.
Miss Farb and Miss Burnette
were honored again on March
18 when the brides-elect and
sixteen guests were entertain
ed at a delicious brunch in th
faculty dining hall at Kauf-
mann Hall. The focal point of
the banquet table was a large
arrangement of pink and white
carnations. Miniature nosegays
marked the places of the ho-
norees.
Mrs. Kibler Williamson and
Miss Margaret Paysinger, hos
tesses for this luncheon, pre
sented Miss Farb with a cry
stal condiment dish and a sil
ver spoon.
Miss Caroline Smith and
Miss Paula Richardson held a
kitchen shower in Miss Farb’s
honor on April 8. The C. M.
Smith residence was beautiful
ly decorated with spring flow
ers. The bride-elect was pre
sented a lovely pink and white
camellia corsage. About a do
zen guests participated in a
guessing game.
The dining room table held a
distinctive arrangement of pink
azaleas, crabapple, spirea, and
other garden flowers. Delicious
refreshments of lime punch,
sandwiches, individually-iced
cakes, cheese bisucits, and but
ter mints were served. The hos
tesses presented the bride-
elect with a portable electric
mixer and a recipe file of their
favorite recipes.
On the evening of April 12,
Mrs. Blaine Eader and Mrs.
John Whitacre honored Miss
Farb with a drudgery shower.
Many college friends of the
bride-elect attended this event.
The hostesses presented Miss
Farb with a yellow and white
carnation corsage. After play
ing several games dealing
with housework and cooking,
the guests created their own
ice cream sundaes from an as
sortment of toppings and sauc
es. Cokes and cookies were
served with the refreshments.
The bride-elect received many
items including a steam iron
from the hostesses.
On the evening of April 15.
Mr. and Mrs. J. Carol Wessin-
ger entertained guests at a cou
ples dinner honoring Miss Con
nie Farb and Mr. R. Kent Fast.
The dinner party was held on
the lawn of the Wessinger’s
Hor d’heuvres were also serv
ed, followed by salads and side
dishes. Miss Farb and Mr. Fast
were given a dinner plate of
their china pattern.
Miss Derryl Satterwhite and
Mrs. I. M. Satterwhite, Jr.
honored Miss Farb with a bri
dal luncheon on May 6. Ar
rangements of pink peonies,
roses, and iris decorated the
Satterwhite home. On arrival
the bride-elect received a white
chrysanthemum corsage. A
miniature bride marked the ho-
noree’s place at the table. The
guests, including high school
and college friends, enjoyed a
buffet luncheon of a chicken
casserole, asparagus spears,
spinach souffle, and strawberry
shortcake. The hostesses pre
sented the bride-elect with a
knife in her silver pattern.
On May 12 Miss Farb and
Mr. Fast were one of eight en
gaged couples from Newberry
College who were honored at
dinner by Dr. and Mrs. Fre-
dric B. Irvin at the president’s
home. The focal point of the
dining room table was an ar
rangement of multi-colored ros
es. A delicious buffet dinner
was served to the guests.
