Mrs. L. V. Bass
Mrs. Jerrie Love Frye Bass,
40, wife of Lee V. Bass, died
Friday at the Newberry County
Memorial Hospital after a ling
ering illness.
Mrs. Bass was born in Dar
lington, the daughter of Mrs.
Katie Waites Frye of Newberry
and the late W. I. Fyre. She
had been employed by the Ce-
lannese Plant at Rock Hili
and was a member of College
Street Church of God.
Besides her husband and
mother, she is survived by one
daughter, Mrs. Mary Ann Mar
tin of Aliceville, Alabama; two
brothers, Bill Fyre of Newberry
and Oscar Fyre of Whitmire;
three sisters, Mrs. Kat Mc
Carthy of Rock Hill, Mrs. Jean
Bumgardner of Mooresville,
North Carolina, and Mrs. Mar
garet Taylor of Newberry; and
three grandchildren.
Funeral services were con
ducted at 3:30 p.m. Saturday
at College Street Church of God
by the Rev. Eugene Nicola and
the Rev. J. W. Moore. Inter
ment was in Springdale Sec
tion, Rosemont Cemetery.

lumbia; a sister, Mrs. Brinnie
Oliver of Little Mountain; a
brother, Oscar Shealy of Cha
pin; also 15 grandchildren and'
37 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
at 3 p.m. Monday from Mt.
Horeb Lutheran Church with
Rev. E. A. Dasher conducting
the service. Burial was in Mt.
Horeb Cemetery with Masonic
rites.
F. M. Warren
Francis Marion Warren, 69,
of Route 2, Prosperity, died
suddenly Saturday afternoon at
the Newberry County Memorial
Hospital. Bom in Newberry
County, he was a son of the
late Francis Marion Warren Sr.
and Elizabeth Dickert Warren.
He was a retired textile em
ployee of Oakland Plant of Ken
dall Mills.
Surviving are his wife, Eva
Morris Warren; a son, Gurney
L. Warren of Prosperity; a sis
ter, Mrs. Virgil Huffstetler of
Newberry; a brother, Abe War
ren of Newberry; also two
grandchildren and a great
grandchild.
Funeral services were held
at 4 p.m. Monday from Mc-
Swain Funeral Home with Rev.
J. Hilton Roof conducting the
service. Burial was in St. Luke’s
Lutheran Church cemetery.

B. Lee Shealy, 87, of Route
1, Little Mountain, died Sunday
morning at Lowman Home in
White Rock. Born in Lexing
ton County, he was a son of the
late Leonard and Martha Cum-
Charles Neal
Charles Edward Neal, 23, of
Brentwood, Maryland, died sud
denly Sunday.
Mr. Neal was bom in Wash
ington, D. C. the son of James
Edward and Hazel Minnie Neal
of Brentwood, Md. He was a
graduate of Newberry College,
Class of 1971.
Besides his parents, he is sur
vived by one brother, Tomnr
Neal of Newberry College and
Brentwood, Md.

Lewis Kinard, Sr.
Lewis Windred Kinard Sr.,
47, of Nashville, Tenn. died
Monday, April 3, in the Vete
rans Hospital in Nashville fol
lowing a brief illness.
Mr. Kinard was born and
educated in Newberry County.
He was the son of the late
Holmes Forrest and Chrissie
Shealy Kinard. He was a mem
ber of St. Philip’s Lutheran
Church of Prosperity and a
World War II Army Veteran.
Mr. Kinard was employed by
National Linen Service for 29
years. During the past two
years he was employed by
Guardsmark, Inc.
Surviving are his son, Lewis
Winfred Kinard, Jr. of Madi
son, Tenn.; two sisters, Mrs.
Mildred Enlow of Rikard Nurs-.
ing Home and Mrs. Ben C.
Wicker of Prosperity; two step
daughters, Mrs. Janice Smith
of Franklin, Tenn., and Mrs.
LaVonne Ward of Mt. Juliet,
Tenn.; a step mother, Mrs. Erin
T. Kinard of Prosperity; six
step-grandchildren; and a num
ber of uncles, aunts, nieces and
nephews.
The funeral was held Thurs
day, April 6, at Madison Fu
neral Home, Madison, Tenn. In
terment was in the National
Cemetery, Madison, Tenn.
J. G. Boozer, Jr.
John G. Boozer Jr., 62, of
Lexington, died Saturday in
Baptist Hospital after a long
illness.
A son of the late John G.
and Orrie Caminer Boozer, he
was born in Lexington County.
Services were held Sunday at
4 p.m. in St. David Lutheran
Church conducted by the Rev.
Earl McCombs and Dr. D. M.
Shull.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs.
Zelia Caughman Boozer; two
sons, John M. and Thomas C.
Booxer of Lexington; four sis
ters, Mrs. Oscar Wilson and
Mrs. Reed Hook of Lexington,
and Mrs. George Merritt of
Winnsboro, and Mrs. Byran
Mett Merritt of Newberry; and
a brother, Buren Boozer of Sa
lisbury, N. C.

ducted at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at
the Whitaker Funeral Home by
Rev. Joe Tysinger and Rev.
Donald West. Interment was in
Newberry Memorial Gardens.
J. P. HYLER
John Pinkney Hyler, 60, of
2008 Montgomery Street, died
Friday afternoon at the New
berry County Memorial Hospi
tal after a short illness.
Mr. Hyler was born in Sa
luda County, the son of the late
John and Ann Rowe Hyler. He
was a retired employee of the
City of Newberry and was a
member of Ebenezer United
Methodist Church.
He was twice married, first
to the late Mrs. Elizabeth Clark
Hyler, and second to the late
Mrs. Betty Lou Watts Hyler.
He is survived by one bro
ther, J. K. Hyler of Greenville;
a step-daughter, Mrs. Wilson

basic training
FT. JACKSON - Army Pri-
vate Eddie L. Byrd, 19, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Dewey B.
Byrd, Byrd Street, Prosperity,
recently completed eight weeks
of training as an infantry di
rect fire crewman at Ft. Jack-
son, S. C.
He learned the techniques of
fire and tactics of a rifle squad,
patrolling individual combat
operations, landmine warfare,
land navigation, communica
tions, antitank warfare, and the
firing and maintenance of the
90MM and 106MM recoilless
rifles.
County council
draws resolution
The Newberry County Coun
cil members signed a resolu
tion Tuesday, and presented it
;o the widow of Councilman
John Harold Schumpert. Schum-
pert was killed April 5 in a
traffic accident.
The resolution reads, “be it
resolved by the County Coun
cil of the County of Newberry
that we recognize that the ser
vices of the late John H. Schum
pert will be greatly missed not
only by the entire citizenry of
Newberry County but by his
fellow members on county coun
cil as well, and that, we, the
members of Newberry County
Council, offer not only our sin
cere sympathy to the family
but our desire to assist the
family of the late Mr. Schum
pert in whatever way possible.”
In other business, council
signed claims for county bills
for the month of March in the
amount of $24,800.36.

Second Reading
Notice is hereby given that City Council will
hold Second Reading on the following ordi
nance at a meeting of City Council to be held
in Council Room, City Hall, Newberry, S. C.,
on April 18, 1972, beginning at 7:30 P.M.
An ordinance to make it unlawful for any
one at any time to fire a gun, pistol, cannon,
rifle or any species of firearm in the cor
porate limits of the City of Newberry. This
shall not apply to law enforcement officers
in the course of their duties; nor shall it
apply to anyone in the legal protection of
his property; nor shall it apply to any in
door target range.
