Before the formal reception
in the College’s Kaufmann Hall,
the Newberry College Alumni
Association and the Women’s
League presented Dr. Wiles with
life-time memberships in their
organizations, the city of New
berry gave Mrs. Wiles a large
photo-portrait of her husband,
and Kohn gave them a cash
gift on behalf of the College
community.
Dr. and Mrs. Wiles will move
to Summerville, S. C. this week
where he expects to do some
writing and to raise flowers in
stead of money.
Dove season
opens Saturday
The 1971-72 dove season is
scheduled to open on Septem
ber 4, 1971. District Ranger J.
0. Baker, Jr. of the U. S. Fo
rest Service has stated that the
Enoree Ranger District, Sumt
er National Forest, will have
six fields open for public hunt
ing this season.

Mrs. Francis H. Hart of An
derson, nationally accredited
master flower judge, will be the
featured speaker at a meeting
of Newberry Civic League at
Newberry Community Hall
Tuesday, November 23, at 3
p.m.
She is a popular lecturer, not
ed authority on gardening, flow
er arranging and flower show
practices. Mrs. Hart, one of
Anderson’s best known civic
leaders, has won many prizes.
One of these was the first a-
ward ever presented by Ander
son garden club council. Anoth
er was presented by the Ame
rican Camellia Society.
She holds life memberships
in the Garden Club of South
Carolina and the National Coun
cil of State Garden Clubs. She
has written numerous articles
to accompany pictures of her
flowers arrangements which
have appeared in books and
periodicals.

Lieut. Lister
in Iceland
KEFLAVIK, Iceland - First
Lieutenant Robert G. Lister Jr.,
son of Mr. and Mrs. R. G.
Lister Sr. of 1519 Mower St.,
Newberry, has arrived for duty
at Rockville Aircraft Control
and Warning Station, Iceland.
Lieutenant Lister is a wea
pons controller with a unit of
the Aerospace Defense Com
mand which protects the U.S.
against hostile aircraft and
missiles. He previously served
at Ft. Lee Air Force Station,
Va.
The lieutenant, a 1965 gra
duate of Newberry High School,
received a B.S. degree from the
Citadel, Charleston, and was
commissioned there through the
Reserve Officers Training Corps
program.
His wife, Jane, is the daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. John C.
Freeman of 3225 Whitehall Rd.,
Columbia.
