The new $600,000 Music Building on the New r berry
College campus is beginning to take shape. Workmen
began on the structure after the groundbreaking cere
monies in January and are expected to complete the build
ing in the spring of 1972. It is being constructed north
of the President’s home on Luther Street across from the
baseball diamond.

Mrs. Huckaby
rites Wednesday
Mrs. Lois Watson Huckab^
81, widow of the late W. Carey
Huckaby, died Monday after
noon at the Newberry County
Memorial Hospital after a lin
gering illness.
She was bom and reared in
Spartanburg County and was
the daughter of the late Golden
A. and Fannie Stone Watson.
Mrs. Huckaby taught school in
Spartanburg County for a num
ber of years prior to her re
tirement. She was a member
3f the Newberry Retired Tea
chers’ Association; the Silver-
street Home Demonstration
Club; the Silverstreet L.C.W.
and the First Baptist Church of
Woodruff.
Surviving are one daughter,
Mrs. Jerome F. Havird, Silver-
street; two brothers, Marshall
Watson, Spartanburg, and Paul
Watson, Columbia; three sis
ters, Mrs. Emma Huckaby, Roe
buck, S.C., Mrs. Sally Green
and Mrs. Warren Drummond,
both of Oteen, N.C.; one grand
son, Jerry Havird, Silverstreet;
and a number of nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’
clock from the Silverstreet Lu
theran Church with Rev. Ho
race J. C. Lindler conducting
the service. Interment was in
Greenlawn Memorial Gardens
in Spartanburg, S.C.
W. L. Hamilton
rites at Easley
Walter Lee Hamilton, 69, of
Greenville, died Monday.
A native of Easley, son of
the late Ed and Jane Roper
Hamilton, he was a retired tex
tile employee, and was a mem
ber of Judson Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Katie McCraw Hamilton; a
daughter, Mrs. Robert Sayer of
Greenville; a son, Sgt. Walter
Edward Hamilton of Newberry;
a sister, Mrs. Wade T. Gilstrap
of Easley; five grandchildren;
and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Jones
Mortuary. Burial was in West
View Cemetery, Easley.
