for Street-Rivers wedding vows

daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ma-
xie Herman Morris of Route
3, Newberry and Robert Wayne
Rivers, son of Mr. and Mrs.
William Martin Rivers of VA
Manor Drive, Allendale, South
Carolina were united in holy
matrimony Sunday, June 20,
1971 at 4:00 P.M. in St. James
Lutheran Church, Newberry.
The nuptial setting was creat
ed with arched candelabra,
palms, and altar vases of pink
and lavender daisies, Queen
Anne’s Lace and Fern. Family
pews were marked with ribbon.
The Rev. Paul Hatch, pastor
of the bride, and The Rev. Harry
Weber, Chaplain of Newberry
College, officiated for the dou
ble ring ceremony.
Organist was Professor Caro
lyn Savko of the Newberry Col
lege Faculty. The St. James
Senior Choir and the Congrega
tion sang “Praise to the Lord,
the Almighty” and “0 Perfect
Love”.
Mr. William Martin Rivers,
father of the groom, served
as best man.
Usher groomsmen were Fran
kie Eugene Altman of Hamp
ton, cousin of the groom,
James David Henderson of
Greer, Early Elmer Long, Jr.
of Georgetown, James Alvin

Ricky Richardson of Prosperity,
and William Leon Rivers of
Richmond, Virginia, twin bro
ther of the groom. Richardson
and Rivers served as acolytes.
Mrs. Don Ricky Richardson
was matron of honor. Brides
maids were Mrs. James David
Henderson of Greer, Miss Pa
tricia Ann Rivers of Allendale,
sister of the groom, and Mrs.
Allan Weeks of Dillon. Their
dresses were made of chiffon
print in violet and white tones.
The all white bodice featured
an oval neckline edged with
lace with rows of lace cascad
ing to the empire waist. Cover
ed buttons in the violet print
centered the bodice. Their hats
were violet horsehair braid
♦r mined with matching velvet
v jbon. They carried a nosegay
of lavender and pink daisies
with lavender streamers.
Miss Teresa Lynn Ruth of
Hampton, cousin of the groom,
was flower girl. Her dress and
accessories were identical to
the bridesmaids. She scattered
daisy petals from a white wick
er basket.
Honorary attendants were
Miss Bunny E. Bedenbaugh of
Prosperity, Mrs. Lionel Long,
Mrs. Dan Maw, Mrs. James
Alvin Owens, and Miss Sandra
Gail Smith all of Newberry, and
Mrs. Frederick Roberts Reenst-
jerna of College Park, 1 Mary
land.
Mrs. Gerald Koon presided at
the register.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, wore a full length
gown of pink chantilly lace over
taffeta, high neckline and bi
shop sleeves. The empire A’line
skirt was enhanced with a man
tel of silk organza flowing from
the shoulder. She wore a pink
picture hat with satin stream
ers. She carried a bouquet of
pink daisies with pink stream
ers centered with a purple
throated orchid.
The mother of the bride wore
an apricot crepe dress trimmed
with hand painted lace from
France. She had matching ac
cessories and an orchid corsage.
The dress was made by Mrs.
John David Bowers of New
berry, aunt of the bride.
The mother of the groom wore
a sleeveless A-line dress with
white cotton lace over Furg ce
lery green taffeta with match
ing long sleeve jacket. She
wore a matching hat with white
accessories and an orchid cor
sage.
Mrs. William Hersey Rivers
of Hampton, maternal grand
mother, wore a navy blue dress-
with matching accessories and
white carnation corsage.
Immediately following the ce
remony, a reception was held at
the St. James Fellowship Hall.
Mr. and Mrs. John David Bo
wers of Newberry greeted the
guests and invited them into
the social hall.
Arrangements of pink and la
vender daisies were used
throughout.
Refreshments were served
buffet style from the refresh
ment table, which was covered
with white satin overlaid with
lace. Silver candelabra and
punch bowls adorned the table.
The bride’s table was also
covered in white satin with a
lace overlay. It was centered
with a three-tier wedding cake
embossed with lavender daisies
topped with the Liturgical Em
blem.
After the couple had tradi
tionally cut the first slice of
wedding cake, it was cut and
served to the guests. The hono
rary bridesmaids assisted in the
serving.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brown
bade the guests goodbye.
The bride wore a bone cotton
lace pant and dress ensemble
with matching accessories and
the orchid from her bouquet
for the wedding trip.
Grandmothers of the couple
are Mrs. Bud Morris of Colum
bia, and Mrs. William Hersey
Rivers of Hampton, and Mrs.
Leo Leger of Kokomo, Indiana.
The bride is a graduate of
Newberry High School and is
employed at Wessels Library,
Newberry College, Newberry.
The groom is a graduate of
Allendale-Fairfax High School,
Syracuse University, Syracuse,
New York and Newberry Col
lege. He is employed with CIT
Finance Cooperation in Colum
bia.
Mr. and Mrs. Rivers plan to
make their home on Route 3,
Newberry.
REHEARSAL PARTY
On Saturday night, members
of the wedding party and invit
ed guests were enteratined at
Kaufmann Hall, Newberry Col
lege before the rehearsal.
Arrangements of daisies cen
tered the tables.
A delicious three-course meal
was served to 34 guests.
During the evening the bride
and groom presented gifts to the
members of the wedding party.

school curriculum
The high school curriculum
will be examined in a three-
week workshop at Newberry
College beginning Monday, June
28, and continuing through Fri
day, July 16.
Devoted to small-group plan
ning of the learning experiences
for young people, the workshop
will be led by Dr. James Cum
mings, head of the College’s
Department of Education. It
will consist of the examination
of the context of courses taught
by the high school instructor
in relation to the total program
of the students, prior experience
of the students and their edu
cational, vocational, and perso
nal goals. Participants will for
mulate course objectives, exa
mine instructional materials,
and develop small curriculum
packages for use by individual
learners of varying achieve
ment levels.
Students enrolled in the cul-
riculum workshop will receive
either three semester hours of
undergraduate credit from New
berry College or three hours
of graduate credit through
Clemson University. Applica
tions for graduate credit should
be mailed to Dr. Conrad B.
Park, Academic Dean, New
berry College.
Registration will take place
at 9 a.m. Monday June 28, in
Room 103 of the Science and
Mathematics Building; their
first class will begin at 9:30
a. m. f o 11 o w i n g registration.
Classes will meet from 9 a.m.
until noon, Monday through Fri
day.
Additional information on the
curriculum workshop may be
obtained from Dr. Park. It is
part of the 1971 Summer School
Program at Newberry College.

and Mrs. George William Seybt, Jr. of Route 1, Pomaria.
The wedding will take place Saturday, August 28 at Col
ony Lutheran Church at 8:00. No formal invitations will
