Mrs. Mittie Young Summer,
79, wife of C. Forrest Summer,^
died early Friday morning at
the Forest Hills Nursing Home
in Columbia after a lingering
illness.
Mrs. Summer was born in
Clinton, the daughter of Dr. W.
H. and Nancy Dickert Young.
She was a member of the Lu
theran Church of the Redeemer.
Besides her husband, she is
survived by three sons, Ferd
J. Summer of Newberry, Tho
mas Y. Summer of Columbia,
and C. Forrest Summer Jr. of
Orlando, Fla.; two daughters,
Mrs. C. V. Pierce of Colum
bia and Mrs. W. T. Young of
Allendale; one sister, Mrs. Tom
O’Connor of Allendale; 11 grand
children and one great-grand
son.
Funeral services were con
ducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday
at the Whitaker Funeral Home
by Dr. Henry A. McCullough.
Interment was in Rosemont Ce
metery.
E. V. Dedmond
died Monday
E. Von Dedmond, 83, husband
of Mrs. Edna Addison Dedmond,
died Monday afternoon at the
Newberry County Memorial Hos
pital. He had been in declining
health for the past several
years.
Mr. Dedmond was born and
reared in Ellenboro, N.C., and
was the son of the late E. W.
and Martha Ann Washington
Dedmond. He had made his
home in Newberry for most of
his life and was a retired em
ployee of the Kendall Company,
a member of Summer Memorial
Lutheran Church, and a mem
ber of the W.O.W.
His wife, Mrs. Edna Addison
Dedmond, died May 29, 1971.
Surviving are two sisters,
Mrs. J. L. Furr, Clinton and
Mrs. Lizzie Troutman, Colum
bus, N. C., and a number of
nieces and nephews.
Funeral was held Wednesday
at 3 p.m. from the McSwain
Funeral Home with Rev. J.
Pierce Evans conducting the
service. Burial was in Rosemont
Cemetery.
Leopard
service Thursday
Buffy Marie Leopard, infant
daughter of John A. and Mar
garet Hendrix Leopard, died
Wednesday at the Newberry
County Memorial Hospital.
Besides her parents, she is
survived by two sisters, Miss
Margaret Lynn Leopard and
Miss Starr Lynette Leopard,
both of Newberry, a maternal
grandmother, Mrs. Lizzie Inez
Hendrix of Whitmire, and a pa
ternal grandmother, Mrs. Cleo
Leopard of Newberry.
Graveside services were con
ducted at 3:30 p.m. Thursday
in Rosemont Cemetery by Rev.
Ralph E. Rhyne.
Mrs. Ben Brown
rites Thursday
Mrs. Alma Esinhardt Brown,
81, of Lexington, wife of Ben
S. Brown, died Wednesday in
a Lexington nursing home.
She was a former resident
of Newberry.
Funeral services were held
Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in Caugh-
man-Harman Funeral Home
conducted by Rev. Fred Oxner.
Burial was in Lexington Memo
rial Cemetery.
Mrs. Brown was born in York,
Pa., a daughter of the late An
drew and Sara Esinhardt.
Surviving is her husband.
Mrs. Cockrell
died Tuesday
Mrs. Annie Mae O’Branion
Cockrell, 70, of Saluda, widow
of Burdett Cockrell, died Tues
day.
A native of Aiken County, she
was a daughter of the late
Samuel and Eva Craig O’Bra
nion.
Survivors include a son, Her
bert Cockrell of Joanna.
Funeral services were held
Thursday at 4 p.m. at Hope-
well Holiness Church. Burial
was in Red Bank Baptist Church
cemetery.
Mrs. C. E. Huggin
rites Tuesday
Mrs. Mary Poole Huggin, 90,
of Gaffney, widow of C. E. Hug
gin, died Sunday.
A native of Cherokee County,
she was a member of Buford
Street Methodist Church. She
was a daughter of the late G.
S. and Rhoda Bains Poole.
Surviving are a daughter,
Miss Mary Huggin of Gaffney;
five sons. Jack Huggin of Gaff
ney. Carlisle Huggin of Hagers
town, Md., George Huggin of
Newberry, Hugh Huggin of Char
lotte, N. C., and Jamin Huggin
of Greenville; a sister, Miss
Millie Poole of Asheville, N. C.;
and two brothers, Hamon Poole
of Hendersonville, N. C., and
George Poole of St. Petersburg.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Gaffney.
Claude C. Davis
died Tuesday
Claude C. “Peg” Davis, 58,
of Anderson, died Tuesday.
Born in Anderson County, son
of the late William Henry and
Nancy Boggs Davis, he was a
retired store operator.
Survivors include a brother,
Rev. Roy A. Davis of Pros
perity.
P’uneral services were at 2
p.m. Friday. Burial will be in
Old Silver Brook Cemetery.
