Mr. and Mrs. Harold Leopard announce the engagement
and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Dianne, to
Mr. Donald Ernest Miller, son of Mr. Ernest Rosick Miller
and the late Eldora Griffin Miller of Indian Land, S. C.
Miss Leopard attended Newberry College and graduated
in May with a B.A. degree in English.
Mr. Miller is a rising senior at Newberry where he is
secretary of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity.
The wedding is planned for August 22, 1971, West End
Baptist Church, 5 p.m. No formal invitations will be sent
in Newberry, but friends and relatives are invited.
Parties honor
Miss Williams
On May 5 a t7:30 P.M. Miss
Mary Williams was honored
with a miscellaneous shower by
Mrs. Melvin Attaway, Mrs. Dell
Wilson, and Mrs. Rufus Low-
man at the home of Mrs. Atta
way.
The honoree, upon arrival,
was presented a red rose cor
sage.
A delicious salad plate was
served the thirty guests after
which many useful gifts were
presented the bride-elect.
Out-of-town guests were Mrs.
John Glover, mother of the
groom-elect, and Miss Mollie
Glover, sister of groom-elect of
Clinton, S. C.
On Saturday, May 22, at 12:30
P.M., Mrs. Elbert J. Dickert,
Mrs. Benjamin Buddin, and
Mrs. Robert E. Beck at the
home of Mrs. Dickert on Col
lege Street, entertained Miss
Mary Williams, bride-elect of
July 18, with a luncheon.
The honoree was presented a
cymbidium orchid corsage.
The Dickert home was de
corated with garden roses.
Centering the dining room table
was a silver epergne of pink
roses, carnations, snapdragons,
and gypsophilia. A miniature
bride marked the place of the
bride-elect.
The hostesses presented the
honoree with a silver gallery
tray.
Out-of-town guests included
Mrs. John Glover, mother of
groom-elect. Miss Mollie Glover
sister of groom-elect, of Clin
ton and Mrs. Keith Fleischman,
aunt of groom-elect, of Ninety
Six, S. C.
Fourteen guests enjoyed the
lovely occasion.
Miss Mary Williams was ho
nored on May 26 at 8:00 P.M.
with a miscellaneous shower at
the home of Mrs. Albert Jones,
Mower Street, with Mrs. Larry
Swygert, and Mrs. Melton Wall
as co-hostesses.
Upon arrival each guest was
pinned with a miniature gold
wedding ring tied with a yellow
ribbon. The honoree’s chair was
marked with a net and rose
nosegay.
The lovely home of Mrs.
Jones was decorated with roses
and candles.
Bride’s bingo and several
other games were enjoyed
throughout the evening.
A delicious salad plate was
served the twenty guests after
which the honoree was present
ed many useful and lovely
gifts.

Mollie Glover, and Miss Jeannie
Glover, sisters of the groom-
elect, both of Clinton, S. C.

bride-elect of Newberry, S. C.,

elects of Clinton with a lunch
eon at 12:30 P.M. on May 29
at the home of Mrs. Jacobs.
The honoree was presented a
sweetheart rose corsage.
The lovely bride's table was
decorated with roses and a de
licious three course luncheon
was served the twenty-four
guests.
The hostesses presented each
honoree with a recipe holder.

of the bride-elect, all of New

Mrs. Roy D. Whitaker, Miss
Mary Williams and Mr. John
Glover, bride and groom-elects
of July, were honored by Mr.
and Mrs. Otis Whitaker, Mr.
and Mrs. Paul Whitaker, Mr.
and Mrs. Ralph Whitaker, Mr.
and Mrs. William Jordan, and
Mr. and Mrs. Roy D. Whitaker,
aunts and uncles of the bride-
elect.
The honoree was presented
a lovely orchid corsage.
Upon arrival the guests were
greeted by the hosts and hos
tesses and invited into the at
tractive den where punch and
hors d’oeuvres were served by
Mrs. Roy D. Whitaker, Jr.,
Mrs. Donald R. Dowling, Mrs.
Kyle D. Loftis, and Mrs. Jack
W. Whiteside.
The lovely dining area of the
Whitaker home was artistically
decorated throughout with white
orchids, ivy, candles and roses.
A delicious buffet dinner con
sisting of ham, beans, macaroni
pie, fruit salad, hot rolls, straw
berry tarts, coffee and tea was
served the forty guests.
Out-of-town guests were Mr.
and Mrs. John Glover of Clin
ton, mother and father of the
groom-elect.
Renwick wins
Kiwanis grant
Mr. William Robert Renwick,
2103 Mower Street in Newberry
is the winner of the twelfth
annual college scholarship by
the Newberry Kiwanis Club.
The scholarship is in the a-
mount of $500 and will be used
by Mr. Renwick during his
freshman year at Newberry Col
lege.
Mr. Renwick is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Marcel-
lus Renwick. He plans to ma
jor in Business Administration.
Land of Oz
season opens
The Land of Oz, which last
year began North Carolina’s all
time leading tourist attraction,
will open its second season June
10.
More than 100 youngsters
from 7 states arrived at Beech
Mountain Saturday to begin try
ing out and rehearsing for roles
as Dorothy, the Scarecrow, Tin
man, Cowardly Lion, Wicked
Witch of the West, among
others.
Several will be selected for
each role, since characters are
required along the Yellow Brick
Road and in Emerald City.
Oz is a themed adventure
park that lets visitors walk
through the entire story of “The
Wizard of Oz.” In its first sea
son last year, it drew 301.332
visitors. Ernie Rhymer, Gene
ral Manager, says he expects
half a million persons through
the park this season.
Summer helps
in exercise

berg, Germany.

1700 men and women who were
awarded degrees by President
Terry Sanford at Duke Univer
sity’s 119th graduation exercises
on Monday, June 7.
Beth received the Bachelor of
Arts degree in Chemistry.
While at Duke, she was a mem-

German Army’s 270th Transpor
tation Company and U. S.
Army’s 95th Supply and Service
Battalion.
BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT
Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Hall of
Clemson, S. C., announce the
birth of a daughter, Jessica
Nichols, born Saturday, June 12
in Anderson Memorial Hospital.
The mother is the former Mo-
riat Nichols, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Leon Nichols of New
berry.

during her senior year she was
first soprano section leader. In
her fraternity Phi Mu, she serv
ed as secretary and was music
director for three years.

the Duke University School of
Medicine.
