Miss Teala Anne Britt and
Mr. Steven Franklin Armfield
were married Saturday, May 8
at 4 o’clock at Aveleigh Pres
byterian Church The minister,
Dr. Neil E. Truesdell, perform
ed the double ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Hicharld L. Britt
ol Charleston, formerly of New
berry. The bridegroom is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. 0. F. Arm-
field, Jr. of Newberry.
Mrs. Ben P. Dillard, III of
Greer, sister of the groom, and
Jerry W. Britt of Charleston,
West Virginia, uncle of the
bride, presented the wedding
music.
The bridegroom's father serv
ed as best man. Ushers were
Ben P. Dillard, III of Greer and
Russell S. Andrews, Jr. of Mo
bile, Alabama, brothers-in-law of
the groom, Terry Britt New
berry, brother of the bride, Wil
liam M. Riebe, Newberry and
Larry Thurston of Va. Beach,
Va. '
Toby Britt, brother of the
bride and Martin Armfield, bro
ther of the groom served as
acolytes.
Miss Becky Shilling of Aiken
was maid-of-honor. Bridesmaids
were Misses Margaret Warren.
Phyllis Jones, and Marlene Rod-
elsperger. all of Newberry. Miss
Tonya Britt, sister of the bride
and Miss Debbie Williams of
Columbia were junior brides
maids. The bride’s attendants
wore yellow sleeveless formals
with empire waistlines and dai
sy trim. Their flowers were
nosegays of daisies and English
ivy.
Miss Kim Hellams of Laurens
was flower girl. She wore a
dress similar to the brides
maids and carried a basket of
daisy petals. Ben Perry Dillard
IV, nephew of the groom, was
ring bearer.
The bride’s mother wore a
green dress with matching coat
and accessories and a white
orchid corsage. The groom’s
mother wore a blue dress and
coat with matching accessories
and a white orchid corsage.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father wore a lovely
gown of silk organza over peau
de soie. Scalloped Chantilace
outlined the neckline yoke and
empire line. The C a m e 1 o t
sleeves and A-line skirt were
edged in Chantilace as was the
removable chapel train. The
four-tiered veil of illusion was
attached to a headpiece of pearl
and lace petals with clustered
silk organza roses. She carried
a white Bible with a white or
chid and lilies of the valley.
For a wedding trip to the
beach the bride chose a green
dotted swiss dress with vest and
matching accessories and the
orchid lifted from her Bible.
Mrs. Armfield is a graduate
of Newberry High School and
is employed at the Newberry
Sun.
Mr. Armfield is a graduate
of Newberry High School, at
tended Chowan College in Mur
freesboro, N. C. and is employ
ed at The Newberry Sun.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard L. Britt
entertained with a reception in
the social hall of the church
immediately following the cer
emony. Mr. and Mrs. James
C. Abrams introduced the guests
to the receiving line. Serving
were Mrs. Heber Long, New
berry, Mrs. R. S. Andrews, Jr.,
Mobile, Ala., sister of the groom
Misses Jeannie and Christie
Armfield of Whitmire and Miss
es Conii and Ruthy Sanders of
Newberry. ,
Mr. and Mrs, W. C. Armfield
of Whitmire bade the guests
goodbye. Miss Sudie Dennis and
Mrs. Claudia Hinson presided
at the gift room at the home.
Following the rehearsal on
Friday night. Mr. and Mrs. O.F.
Armfield, Jr. entertained the
wedding party and out-of-town
guests in the social hall of the
church. The bride and groom
presented gifts to their attend
ants at that time.

will go on tour
The next regular meeting of
the Newberry County Historical
Society will depart from the
usual format, according to M.
Foster Farley, president.
Instead of meeting at the
Community Hall for the regu
lar May meeting which would
be on Monday, May 17, the
Society will have a Sunday
meeting.
On Sunday, May 16, members
of the Society will gather at
Belfast, about 8 miles from
Newberry on S. C. Highway 56
(Belfast Road) at 3:30 p.m. Re
freshments will be served and
there will be a short lecture on
the history of Belfast.
From there, the group will
visit the Little River-Dominick
Presbyterian Church Graveyard
c.nd a short history of the church
and graveyard will be given at
Belfast.
The last stop on the tour will
be at Hayes Station in Laurens
County, about three miles from
Belfast. A short talk will be
given at the monument where
“Bloody” Bill Cunningham and
his Tories slew fourteen of his
Patriot prisoners on October 17,
1781.
Golden Age
group meets
The April Meeting of the
Golden Age Fellowship was held
Wednesday, April 7, at the Lu
theran Church of the Redeem
er.
Miss Margaret Paysinger wel
comed the fourteen members
present and after leading the
group in song, shared a part
of the program their Sunday
School performed on Easter in
which eight youth gave devo
tions on the crucifixtion and
sang songs and prayers. A most
inspiring program, indeed.
Mrs. L. G. McCullough pre
siding, read a memorial for
Mrs. H. D. Williams, organizer
of this Golden Age Group.
Upon adjourment, everyone
refreshed in the social hall
where delectable delicacies, and
a hand knitted duck were plac
ed for each lady present.
STATE MUSIC
CLUB MEETING
The South Carolina Federation
of Music Clubs met in Spartan
burg May 6-8 with business
meetings and concerts in Black
man Hall, Converse College.
Mrs. Derrill E. Schumpert of
Union succeeds Mrs. Kenneth
Cribb of Spartanburg as presi
dent of the state federation.
Mrs. Cribb was made a life
member of the SCFMC in ap
preciation of her fine work dur
ing the past three years. Mrs.
Harold Jervey of Columbia was
made a life member also, and
was presented a plaque in ap
preciation of her work on be
half of the blind at Cedar
Springs School, Spartanburg.
Attending on Thursday and
Friday from the Newberry Mu
sic Club were Mrs. Kemper
Lake and Mrs. Price K. Har
mon, member of the state
board.
Mrs. Baker
is honored
Mrs. Richard L. Baker of this
city, president of the Anderson
College Alumni Association was
presented the Alumni Service
Award Saturday at the annual
Alumni convocation held at the
college.
Mrs. Baker, the former Colie
Blease of the Class of 1925, re
ceived the special recogniticn
for her outstanding and unself
ish service to her Alma Mater.
Mrs. Z. W. Meeks of Anderson,
the former alumni association
secretary, made the presenta
tion.
Mrs. Baker is well known in
South Carolina for her active
participation in church and civ
ic areas. She has recently been
reelected for the fourth term
as President of the Women’s
Society of Christian Service of
the Central United Methodist
Church where she and Mr. Bak
er have been active many years.
She was honored with life mem
bership by the Society in 1969.
She has received many cita
tions for city, county and state
beautification, one of which
was the governor’s cup for spec
ial achievement in the field of
beautification. She has served
as president of the Garden Club
of South Carolina and has also
held many offices in the state
and Newberry garden clubs.
Mrs. Baker is listed in the
Blue Book published by the St.
James Press of London and
Chicago. Names included are
British and American people
who have achieved distinction
in their fields. She is also listed
in South Carolina Lives, by
Louise DuBose, and in Out
standing Women of the South.
Mr. Baker was present for the
occasion.

economics with the B. S. degree;

berry, Annie Elizabeth Long, Sil-
verstreet, Elizabeth Hart Rank
in, Whitmire, A. B. degrees in
the School of Arts and Sciences.
ALAMOGORDO — Technical
Sergeant John E. Robinson, nep
hew of Mrs. Mary Bishop of
101 Boundary Street, was de
corated with the U. S. Air Force
Commendation Medal at Kirt-
land AFB, N. M. by his com
mander. Sgt. Robinson, a tele
communications systems tech
nician, distinguished himself by
meritorious service while as
signed at Clark AB, Philippines.
He is now at Kirtland with a
unit of the Air Force Commun-*
ications Service. The sergeant
attended Drayton Street High
School and completed require
ments for his diploma after
entering the Air Force. His wife
is the former Anna Maria Vogt
from Germany.
