has come through the dedicated
untiring effort of many indivi
duals and organizations too nu
merous to name here.
Our thanks to the Youth or
ganizations for applying their
energy and enthusiasm to a
worthy cause; to City and
county Officials who helped us
in many ways; to the local
News media for their valuable
publicity and support; and to
all Newberry Countians who
participated in Clean-Up Week
in any way.
We should let the success of
our endeavors inspire us to
continue throughout the year to
strive to make Newberry Coun
ty a cleaner, healthier and more
beautiful place to live.

George Duncan
dies in Chester
George Washington Duncan,
67, of Chester, died Wednesday.
Born in Clarkton, N.C.. son
of the late Wesley and Kate
Lashley Duncan, he was a re
tired police radio dispatcher for
Chester.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Athea Louise Holder Duncan;
two sons, Ray E. Duncan of
Chester and Wallace Duncan
of Newberry; two daughters,
Mrs. Ann Starnes and Miss Dot
Duncan of Chester; a stepbro
ther, Walter Widener of Blair;
a stepsister, Mrs. Edith Cole
man of Blair; and 10 grand
children.
Funeral services were Friday
at 4 p.m. at Second Baptist
Church. Burial was in Ever
green Cemetery.
John W. Minor
rites Friday
John William Minor, 64, died
early Thursday morning at the
Newberry County Memorial
Hospital.
Mr. Minor was bom in New
berry, the son of the late James
Pope and Agnes Bishop Minor.
Prior to his retirement, he was
sectionman at the Newberry
Mills. He was a member of
O’Neal United Methodist Church
the W.L.W. Sunday School Class
and a veteran of World War
II.
He is survived by his wife,
Mrs. Ida Mae Kinard Minor;
one brother, James H. Minor
of Clinton; and a sister-in-law,
Mrs. Annie Grey Minor of
Newberry.
Funeral services were con
ducted at 5 p.m. Friday at O’-

Mrs. Sims dies
at Lancaster
Mrs. Eulah Blackmon Sims,
85, of Lancaster, died Sunday
in her home following a long
illness.
Mrs. Sims was bom in Lan
caster County, a daughter of the
late John S. and Nancy Brasing-
ton Blackmon.
Surviving are her husband,
William Jack Sims Sr.; four
daughters, Mrs. James Shealy
of Newberry and Mrs. Amos
Hinson, Mrs. Jack Shehane and
Mrs. Eula Mae Eidson of Lan
caster; four sons, J. Furman
and William J. Sims Jr. of Lan
caster, Charles M. Sims of New
berry and Billy Jack Hoagland
of the U. S. Air Force.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday at 4 p.m. in High
Point Baptist Church in Lan
caster, with burial in Lancaster
Memorial Park.

“The Curious Savage,” opens for a three-night run at
Newberry College on Thursday, May 6. The “curious”
heroine of the title is a wealthy widow who decides to
put her late husband’s fortune in a fund to help people.
Her step-children, horrified at the thought, have Mrs.
Savage placed in a high-class sanitarium, The Cloisters.
Curtain time for the comedy by the Newberry College
Theatre is 8 p.m. each evening.
One of the nurses, played by Judy Thurston, Clear
water, Fla. jr. and the doctor, John Kinser, Gatlinburg,
Tenn. sr., talk to two of the patients, Mrs. Savage, Nancy
Raymond, Lake Wales, Fla. soph., and Hannibal, Rusty
McKibben, Chester sr.
