Shealv-Hoffman vows spoken
Miss Patricia Branders Shea-
ly of Newberry became the
bride of William Trufant Hoff
man of Richmond, Virginia,
Saturday, March 27 at seven
o'clock in the evening in the
First Baptist Church, Newberry,
South Carolina.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. L. B. “Dick”
Shealy of Newberry. She is a
maternal grandaughter of the
late Mr. and Mrs. Patrick B.
Mitchell and a paternal grand--
daughter of Mrs. Elmer L.
Shealy of Walterboro and the
late Mr. Shealy of Little Moun
tain..
The bridegroom’s parents are
Mr. and Mrs. William Bussey
Hoffman of Columbia, South
Carolina. He is a maternal
grandson of the late Mr. and
Mrs. H. H. Fetzer of Bedford,
New York, and a paternal
grandson of Mrs. Irving M.
Hoffman of Ridgewood, New
Jersey and the late Mr. Hoff
man.
Reverend J. Anderson Bass
performed the candlelight dou
ble ring ceremony. A flower ar
rangement of chrysanthemums,
pom-pons, glads and stock cen
tered the chancel with streams
of ivy flanked by arched can
delabra to complete the setting.
A program of nuptial music
was presented by Miss Mildred
Suber, organist of Whitmire,
South Carolina. Mrs. James C.
Frazier of Anderson, South Caro
lina, soprano, sang “All for
You”, “Serenade”, and “The
Lord’s Prayer”. Traditional
wedding marches were played
for the processional and reces
sional, Miss Mary Martha Ave-
disian assisted with the sheet
music at the organ.
Usher groomsmen were Char
les Branders Shealy, brother of
the bride, Newberry, South Car
olina, Robert Stoudt, head us
her of Richmond, Virginia, Bar
ry Drews and David Erskine
also of Richmond, Virginia.
Serving as best man was Ro
bert Baskett of Richmond, Vir
ginia. Acolytes were Master
Bill Hentz and Master Jim
Hentz of Newberry.
Miss Sally Crawford of Rich
mond, Virginia, sorority sister 1 ,
was maid of honor.
Bridal attendants were Miss
Lila Fischer of Newberry, Miss
Gwen Chandler of Central,
South Carolina and Richmond,
Virginia, also a sorority sister,
Miss Mary Jo Watters of At
lanta, Georgia, and Mrs. David
Erskine of Richmond, Virginia.
The attendants wore formal
gowns of navy blue chiffon and
carried a yellow chrysanthe
mum nosegay.
Miss Lisa Fischer served as
flower girl. Her dress was iden
tical to the attendants’ dresses.
She carried a basket filled with
rose petals.
Charles Ruff served as ring
bearer and wore a formal suit
similar to the groomsmen.
Honorary bridesmaids were
Miss Julianne Stuck of Wal
terboro, Miss Miriam Ann Mit
chell of Florence, Miss Frances
Jordan of Newberry, cousins of
the bride. Miss Sally Watters
of Atlanta, Georgia, Miss Bess
Smith, sorority sister of Rich
mond, Virginia, Miss Nancy
Ruff and Miss Bette Mosley
Newberry, South Carolina.
Escorted and given in mar
riage by her father, the petite
brunette bride was lovely in
her formal candlelight wedding
gown with an empire silhou
ette of embroidered organza.
Tiny organza buttons trimmed
the center bodice and cuffs of
the bishop sleeves. Attached
was an embroidered bouffant
train with a long bridal French
illusion veil. She carried a bou
quet of white and yellow roses
centered with white camellias
accented with baby’s breath.
The bride’s mother wore a
lavender lame dress with match
ing accessories and white or
chid corsage.
The bridegroom’s mother
wore a pink dress trimmed in
sequins with matching accesso
ries with a corsage made from
Heather of Scotland.
Mrs, E. L. Shealy, paternal
grandmother, wore an aqua
dress with a white camellia cor
sage.
Mrs. Irving M. Hoffman, pa
ternal grandmother of the groom
wore a light blue dress with a
white camellia corsage.
Directing the w-edding were
Mrs. Glenn Brackett of New
berry and Miss Ann Duckett
of Whitmire.
RECEPTION
Immediately after the cere
mony the bridal couple and
members of the wedding party
received in the vestibule of the
church. Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Graham introduced the guests
to the receiving line. Mr. r, .d
Mrs. Albert Jones and Mr. and
Mrs. Ralph Williams invited the
guests to the reception at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. L. Hart
Jordan on Boundary Street, aunt
and uncle of the bride.
Mr. and Mrs. L. Hart Jordan
greeted the guests at the home
which was artistically decorat
ed with arrangements of spring
flowers, camellias, and ivy.
Mrs. Ann C. Fischer and Mr.
H. Kelly Jones of Columbia in
troduced the guests to the
grandmothers in the living
room where Mr. and Mrs. Mon
roe Stuck and Mr. and Mrs.
Charles E. Mitchell invited the
guests to the dining room. De
licious sandwiches, cakes, mints
nuts and punch were served
from the beautifully appointed
table which was overlaid with
an imported lace and linen
cloth. Pastel spring flowers and
candles arranged in silver can
delabra completed the setting.
Assisting in serving were Mrs.
Walter Tarrer, Mrs. Tom Long
shore, Mrs. John H. Schumpert,
Mrs. Roy W. Anderson, Mrs.
J. W. Conders of Columbia,
Mrs. W. H. Tedford, Mrs. Joe
Pool, Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Dukes, Mrs. Leonide Reagin,
and the honorary bridesmaids,
Mrs. E. Maxcy Stone and Mrs.
William H. Carter served punch.
The three tiered wedding cake
was served by Mrs. Ida Sum
mer of Florence, and Mrs. Lee
Baskett of Richmond, Virginia,
after the traditional cutting by
the bridal couple.
Dr. and Mrs. Virgil Rinehart
and Dr. and Mrs. James A.
Underwood invited the guests
to register. The bride’s register
was kept by Mrs. Bonny Thorny
of Lake City and Mrs. Joseph
S. Watters of Atlanta, Georgia.
Receiving in the den and mu
sic rooms of the lovely Jordan
home were Mr. and Mrs. C.
B. Parr, Mr. and Mrs. Howard
Kirkegard, and Mr. and Mrs.
Richard Henry Ruff. Mrs. Lula
Cuthbertson invited the guests
to the bride’s parents home on
Wilson Road to see the gifts.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Graham
and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Wil
liams presided in the gift room.
Late in the evening the couple
left for a wedding trip to Day
tona Beach, Florida. For tra
veling the bride chose a lovely
white pants suit with matching
accessories and lifted her ca
mellia corsage from her bou
quet.
Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman will
reside in Richmond, Virginia.
Mr. Hoffman is a graduate
of Virginia Commonwealth Uni
versity and associated with
Radford Stewart Advertising,
Inc. Richmond, Virginia. Mrs.
Hoffman is a senior at Virginia
Commonwealth University
past treasurer, and president
of Chi Delta Sigma sorority, ma
joring in therapeutic recreation,
and a member of the Richmond
Ballet Company.
REHEARSAL PARTY
After the rehearsal on Fri
day, March 26, Mr. and Mrs.
William B. Hoffman entertained
the wedding party and out-of-
town guests at the lovely home
of Mrs. Ann C. Fisher and Mrs.
Lila Carpenter, Calhoun Street.
A delectable buffet dinner
was served. Spring flowers were
used throughout the spacious
home.
The bride and groom present
ed their wedding party with
gifts.
BRIDAL LUNCHEON
Mrs. Monroe Stuck of Wal
terboro and Mrs. Charles E.
Mitchell of Florence, aunts of
the bride, entertained the bride,
bridesmaids, mothers and
grandmothers of Miss Shealy,
Mr. Hoffman.
Upon arrival the bride was
presented a lovely camellia cor
sage. Delicate spring flowers
were used on the table from
which the delicious luncheon
was served.
The hostesses presented the
bride with a lovely gift of sil
ver.
DINNER PARTY
On Saturday evening, March
13, Miss Sally Crawford, Miss
Gwen Chandler, and Mr. Ro
bert Stoudt of Richmond, Vir
ginia entertained Miss Shealy
and Mr. Hoffman with a dinner
party at the apartment of Mr.
Stoudt, in Richmond. Close
friends and members of the
wedding party in Richmond at
tended the happy occasion.
MISCELLANEOUS SHOWER
The Chi Delta Sigma Soro
rity sisters of Virginia Com
monwealth University, Rich
mond, Virginia, entertained Miss
Shealy with a surprise miscel
laneous shower on March 14.
Bridal games were played
after which delicious refresh
ments were enjoyed by the
guests. Miss Shealy received
many beautiful and useful gifts.
DRAYTON RUTHERFORD
CHAPTER MEETS
The Drayton Rutherford
Chapter will meet April 6 at
4 p.m. at the home of Mrs.
J. E. Wiseman, Sr. Hostess for
the meeting will be Mrs. Steve
C. Griffith and Mrs. Walter
Summer will be in charge of
the program.
Calvin Crozier
meets April 6
The Calvin Crozier Chapter
of The United Daughters of the
Confederacy will meet at the
State Bank and Trust Company
on April 6 at 7:30 P.M. The
hostesses will be Mrs. W. D.
Beard, Mrs. John Epps, Mrs.
John Sanders, Mrs. W. Rhea
Feagle and Mrs. Ruby Trice.
“Florida” will be the subject.
