Miss Newberry Jr. pageant set The Little Miss Newberry Pa geant will be held in conjunc tion with the Miss Newberry Pageant on April 17, 1971, at eight o’clock in the Newberry’ High School Auditorium. All preschool children between the ages of four and six are invited to enter the pageant. Those who wish to enter may pick up their application forms at the following businesses: Turner and Taylor, Jewelers; Carter’s Record Mart; or Shape & Style Beauty Salon. In addition to the participa tion by members of Theta Sig ma Eta at the Newberry Col lege Service, the Chapel Choir will sing and Chaplain Weber will deliver a memorial medi tation for the two students. Watters family to retire here The many Newberry County friends of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Watters of Atlanta, Georgia will be pleased to learn of their plans to return to live in the near future. Mr. Watters last week an nounced his decision to retire as a Senior Vice President in charge of the Store for Homes of Rich’s Department Store in Atlanta, Georgia, effective March 1st. The Watters have been resi dents of Atlanta for 22 years. Mr. Watters began his mer chandising career as an Assis tant Buyer of Furniture at the Davison-Paxon Store in Atlanta in 1948. He joined Rich’s in 1953 as Buyer of Traditional Furniture, and later was also made Buyer for all Colonial and Modem styled furniture. In 1968 he was made a Senior Vice President and appointed to the Executive Committee. Mrs. Watters is a native of Newberry and a member of an old and prominent Newberry County family. She is the for mer Mary Elizabeth Moore, daughter of the late Dr. Ernest Harrison Moore and Nevice Brown Moore. She is the grand daughter of the late Dr. Wilson Caldwell Brown and Elizabeth Chalmers Brown. Mr. and Mrs. Watters are the parents of three daughters and one son - Mrs. John Creasy and Miss Mary Jo Watters of Atlanta, Miss Sally Watters, a student at the University of South Carolina, and Harrison Watters, of the home. There are also two grandchildren - John Andrew and Marie Harri son Creasy. They plan to return to New berry in early June to reside at their country home on Mt. Bethel-Garmany Road. Taxpayer error slows refunds Taxpayer errors on tax re turns are again this year caus ing delays in receipt of re fund checks, H.M. McLeod, Dis trict Director of Internal Re venue for South Carolina, stated today. The errors include use of wrong tax table, wrong Social Security number, mathemati cal errors, missing signatures, and failure to attach Form W-2. About half of all the errors involve missing signatures and W-2’s. These errors require that the IRS Service Center, Chamblee, Georgia, return the tax form to the taxpayer for correction. McLeod suggested that tax payers read the tax instruc tions carefully, check for er rors, and be sure to attach Form W-2 and sign the re turn. Joint returns require the signature of both spouses. Tuesday, Feb ruary 16, in the A.G.D. Wiles Chapel on the Newberry Col lege campus. The two students, Daniel Ly ons and Robert Rigby, III were among the five Newberry area residents killed when their twin- engine private aircraft crashed near the Columbia airport on Wednesday, February 3. A native of Eaton, Ohio, Ly ons was a junior majoring in business administration. Memo rial services were also held for him at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Columbia on Sunday, February 6, by the Rev. D. E. Canaday and New berry College Chaplain Harry Weber. The funeral and burial was in Greensburg, Indianna on Tuesday, February 9. C., has completed her second consecutive “20,000-1,000-lb.” re cord, this one in 305-day production, at 6-3, of 20,680 lbs. milk and 1,224 lbs. fat on 2x places her fifth for fat, 5-11 years, 305-day division, on the National Class Leader list. This is also tied for 25th highest all-time fat record. She continued on official test for six more days and in 311 days produced 20.950 lbs. milk and 1,241 lbs. fat, the 19th highest all-time fat record.
