Students will register for their classes on Friday, Feb ruary 5, and Saturday, Feb ruary 6, and begin their second semester classes on Monday, February 8. Elon College, the Carolinas Conference pace setters, from Elon College, N.C., invade MacLean Gymnasium 7:30 p.m. Saturday night for the first home basketball game since January 25. The squad will then meet the Erskine Flying Fleet on the Er- skine Gym in Due West Mon day, February 8, and entertain the Blue Hose from Presbyte rian College at 7:30 p.m. Thurs day, February 11. The Department of Speech and Dramatics will give ‘The Miser” for three performances in the A.G.D. Wiles Chapel at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, February 11, 12, and 13. The Sunday Chapel Services in the A.G.D. Wiles Chapel will resume on Sunday, February 14. Parlez-vous Francais? If you do speak French, then the per formance of the French some- dy, “L’anglais Tel Qu’on Le Parle,” or ‘‘English as is Spo ken” by Newberry College stu dents at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, in the College’s Holland Hall Auditorium will interest you. The play, which will be per formed in French, is a pro ject of a French class taught by Nancy Swisher, assistant professor of French. The ac tors will present the one-act play written in 1899 in two parts: a French style ‘‘Laugh In” will be given during the Intermission. Marian Hall, Little Mountain fr. has the starring role in the play. Others of the play’s charac ters are portrayed by Ann Man ning, Clearwater, Fla. fr.; Jo Olson, Columbia fr.; Terry Rawls, Pomaria, S.C. fr.; and Hazel Shealy, Lexington soph omore. Brenda Leavell, Newberry fr.; Margaret Warren, Newberry fr; and Leland Teal, Chapin fr.; will also display their talents in the take-off. Watson infant rites in Cheraw Bryant Watson, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Miles Everett Watson, died Thursday in a Newberry hospital. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Che raw.. Surviving are his parents; a brother, Everett Watson Jr. of Newberry; his paternal grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Manley Smith of Cheraw. Warren Winn died Tuesday Warren L. Winn, 51, of Green wood, died Tuesday (Jan. 26). Born in Edgefield County, son of the late Warren L. and Jenelle Jordan Winn, he lived in the Kirksey section since 1947. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. R. N. Clark of Newberry. Funeral services were held in Greenwood. Mrs. M. E. Snyder rites Wednesday Mrs. Marian Eugene Synder, 33, of Columbia, died Tuesday (Jan. 26) in hte Baptist Hos pital after a brief illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Dun bar Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Joseph Derrick. Bu rial was in Greenlawn Memo rial Park. Mrs. Synder, the former Ed na Shealy, was born in New berry, the daughter of Mrs. He len Gruber Shealy and the late George Shealy. She was a mem ber of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection and was se cretary for Western Carolina Tractor Co. Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Debora Faye Syn der; a son, Ricky Allen Syn der; her mother, Mrs. George Shealy of Columbia; a sister Mrs. C. A. (Kathryn) Joyner of Cayce; and a brother, Fred L. Shealy of Summit. David R. Amick wreck victim David Ray Amick, 20, Route 1, Prosperity, was killed in stantly in a one-car accident near Adams Camp bridge late Friday night. Mr. Amick was born in New berry County, the son of Seber Ray and Mildred Vaughn A- mick of Prosperity. He at tended Clemson University for two years and was employed in the Drafting Division of the South Carolina Highway Depart ment. He was a member of Macedonia Lutheran Church. Besides his parents, he is survived by one sister, Miss Ja net Vaughn Amick of Prospe rity; a maternal, grandfather, Herman W. Vaughn Sr. of Pros perity; a paternal grandfather, Seber F. Amick of Prosperity; and a great-grandmother, Mrs. Jasper Amick of Prosperity. Funeral services were con ducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Macedonia Lutheran Church by the Rev. Clarence Richardson, Interment was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Hunnicutt rites Wednesday Mrs. Susan Wood Hunnicut, 98, widow of the late John L. Hunnicutt died Monday (Jan. 25) afternoon at the Roger Hunt ington Nursing Home in Greer, S.C. Mrs. Hunnicutt was born and reared in Oconee County but had made her home in Clinton and Greer for a num ber of years. She was a mem ber of the Whitmire Pentecos tal Holiness Church. Surviving are two sons, John H. Hunicutt, Joanna; Robert L. Hunnicutt, Whitmire; six daugh ters, Mrs. Daisy Harris, Blythe- wood; Mrs. Priscilla Lvnn. Whitmire; Miss Della Hunni cutt, Rock Hill; Mrs. Maggie Nelson, Whitmire; Mrs. Chris tine H. Watkins, Greer, Mrs. Lela Mclver, Maiden, N.C.; and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the Pentecostal Church in Whitmire with Rev. B.R. Ni chols and Rev. Martin Quarles conducting the service. Inter ment was in the Whitmire Ce metery. Mrs. Burton rites Saturday Mrs. Maude S. Burton of 1414 Silas St. died Thursday night at the Newberry County Me morial Hospital. Born in Gainsville, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Os car and Mattie Bramlett Smith. She was a member of Glenn St. Baptist Church, a Sunday School teacher for more than 40 years, and a member of W.M.U. (local and state). She was active in civic and church activities. Surviving are her husband, T. Clyde Burton; three sons, Carl Burton of Greenville, Char les Burton of Torrence, Calif., and Gerald Burton of Columbia, five daughters, Mrs. Larry Smith of Cary, N.C., Mrs. Ha rold Amick of Columbia, Mrs. Corinne Berley and Mrs. Ken neth Cook, both of Newberry, and Mrs. Harold Cook of Pros perity; three sisters, Mrs. Frank Banks of Newberry, Mrs. Leon Suit of Orangeburg, and Mrs. Carroll Proctor of Charlotte; two brothers, Cliff Smith of Clinton and E. K. Smith of Newberry; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral was held at 3 p.m. Saturday from Glenn St. Bap tist Church with Rev. Donald West and Rev. James B. Mit chell conducting the service. Bu rial was in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Knight rites Wednesday Mrs. Lillian Paris Knight, 60, died Wednesday (Jan. 27) morn ing at the Wallace Thompson Hospital after a week’s serious illness. She was born and reared in Union County and was the daughter of the late Raymond and Inez Motes Paris. Mrs. Knight was a member of the Evans Street Church of God and was a retired employee of the J.P. Stevens Ca. Surviving are her husband, Millard L. Knight, Whitmire; two step sisters, Mrs. Sara Hensley and Mrs. Lula Brown ing both of Whitmire and two uncles. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the Evans Street Church of God with Rev. Raymond Kennedy conducting the ser vice. Interment will follow in the Whitmire Cemetery. HEAR DR.
