Cope of 938 Cline St., is serving at the Coast Guard Air Station, Eli zabeth City, N.C. His duties include support of world-wide search and rescue operations, international ice pa trol, boating safety, law en forcement, oceanography and calibration of long range aids to navigation. Hester dies in Cincinnati Homer Lee Hester, 60, of Cin cinnati, (Mo, formerly of Green ville, died in Cincinnati Mon day. The Newberry Sun, Newberry, S- CL, Thursday, Jan. 28. 1ST71—PAGE 5 A native of Oconee County, he formerly lived in Newbeny County and Greenville before moving to Cincinnati 14 years ago. A son of the late Mart and Sally Jones Hester of South Carolina, he was employed at Xavier University in Cincinnati and a Baptist. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. J. H. DeHart of Cincinnati and Mrs. M. D. Chappells of Kinards; and four brothers, Beonar Hester of Greenville. Woodrow Hester of Newberry and Esko Hester and T. J. Hester of Cincinnati. Funeral services were at Westville Baptist Church Wed nesday, Burial was in Grace- land Cemetery.. Thursday rites for Livingston Duane Augustus Livingston, 74, died suddenly last W T ednes- day morning at the Spartan burg General Hospital. He had been in declining health for se veral years. Mr. Livingston was born and reared in Newberry County and was the son of the late David A. and Hassie Wedaman Living ston. He had made his home in Newberry for a number of years prior to moving to 626 Woodland Street in Spartan burg. Mr. Livingston was a member of St. John's Luthe ran Church: a veteran of World War I; a member of the 40 & 8; a member of the American Le gion; and was a retired sales man. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Forehand Livingston, Spartanburg; one sister. Miss Mary Livingston, Newberry; one niece, Mrs. E. W. Rodri gue, Greenville; and one aunt, Mrs. Jim Counts, Pomaria. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. from the McSwain Fune ral Home with Rev. Everette A. Lmeberger and Rev. Henry A. McCullough conducting the service. Burial was in Rose- mont Cemetery. Edward Thomas rites Monday Edward Thomas. Jr., 46. of 1401 Poplar Street, died early Saturday morning at the Medi cal College Hospital in Char leston after a short critical ill ness. Mr. Thomas was bom in Whitmire, son of Mrs. Ella Gre- gory Thomas of Union and the late Edward Thomas Sr. He was a retired employee of New berry Mills and was a mem ber of the Morman Church Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife. Mrs. Mar garet Kelley Thomas: two sons. Wayne Thomas of Newbeny’ and David Thomas of Union; three daughters. Miss Darlene Thomas of Newbeny, Mrs. Nancy Lawson and Mrs. Dianne Sailor both of Union: four bro thers, A. A Thomas and Andv Thomas, both of Newberry, Charles and Gene Thomas, both of Union; two sisters. Mrs. Louise Longshore of Newbeny and Mrs. Doris Moss of Union; and six grandchildren Funeral services were con ducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home by Rev. John H. Koch Jr. and Rev. Ralph Rhyne. Burial was in Rosemont Cemetery Mrs. Dawkins’ father dies Louis D. Marchette, 46, of Florence, retired mortgage bro ker, died W ednesday in a Char leston hospital after a long ill ness. Funeral serv ices were Friday at 3 p.m. in Waters Funeral Home, with burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Surviving are his mother; two daughters. Mrs Jimmy Timmons of Florence and Mrs. Johnny Dawkins of Newberry; and a brother. Donald E. Mar chette of Florence. Lindler rites held at church Walter Jonas Lindler, 88. of Rt. 2, Chapin, died suddenly Saturday afternoon Born in Lexington County, be was a son of the late James J. and Katherine L. lindler He was a retired fanner and a mem ber of St. Jacob's Lutheran Church. Surviving are seven sons. Walter Lindler and Daniel Lind ler. both of Chapin. Omerie Lindler and Jacob Eucebius Lindler, both of Leesville. Le roy Lindler. Claude Lindler and Ernest Lindler. all of Prospe rity: three daughters. Miss Emma Lindler. Mrs Ethel Shealy and Mrs. Marvin Sheaiy, all of Lexington: two half sis ters. a half brother. 27 grand children and 25 great-grand children Funeral services were held Monday from St. Jacob's Lu theran Churcn with Rev. Stuck, 86. died Fri day morning at the Providence Hospital in Columbia Mr Stuck was bom and rear ed in Richland County (form erly old Lexington) and was the son of Charles Mehin and Janie Wessinger Stuck He was a member of St John s Lu theran Church and was a re tired farmer Surviving are his wife.
