Christmas Decor
Needs Festoons
One of the happiest parts of
Christmas is the planning and
making of winter festoons for
the home.
The American Association of
Nurserymen offers these timely
hints for selecting evergreens
for festive decorations.
Christmas Trees and Wreaths.
Red or white pines keep their
needles longer indoors. Balsam
fir not only keeps well, but is
also very fragrant. Avoid
hemlock and common spruce
for indoor use. Their needles
drop within a few days. Both
are good for outdoor decorating,
however.
Garlands and Roping. Among
the narrow leaf evergreens,
pine, cedar, fir, juniper and yew
are the best for decorating.
White pine is excellent for use
indoors because it remains in
good condition for a long time.
Yule Logs. For a crackling,
snapping blaze in the fireplace,
you’ll find oak and beech among
the best. They burn slowly, give
off heat, a nice aroma and
will not throw off sparks. Most
evergreens also give off a
pleasant aroma but they will
throw sparks.

Are Ringing
For Holiday
Ringing across the ages
and around the world,
bells are part of the tradi
tions of Christmas.
Zurich, Switzerland, has
long been noted for its
beautiful bells, say the ed
itors of the New Book of
Knowledge.
Every Christmas Eve,

and Mrs. Henry R. Bright of
1621 College St., has completed
basic training at Lackland AFB,
Tex. He has been assigned to
Sheppard AFB, Tex., for train
ing as a medical services spe
cialist. Airman Bright is a 1970
graduate of Newberry High
School.

are sent to the town of Santa
Claus, Ind., each year for
postmarks. Christmas, Fla., also
