I am here, but once past, I can never come again. Now will
you use my precious minutes?
In each hour of my three hundred and sixty five days you
have sixty minutes. It remains for you to fill them with sixty
seconds of hope, honesty, love, endeavor, patience and trust in
God and your fellow man.
I stretch before you unused, without blemish, unspoiled. Each
day a new leaf in your “Book of Life”. On it you will place your
imprint.
If you write with firm steady strokes the pages will be a joy
to look upon. If your pen falters, if uncertainty and doubt should
mar the pages, it will be a day, a year, to remember with sorrow.

For The Younger Set
Until children are old enough
to earn their Christmas money,
they should be given an amount
to spend for gifts for friends and
relatives. If they can, it is even
better to make their own gifts.
It is important that they be
encouraged to enjoy giving as
well as getting, simple inexpen
sive presents. This is something
that will help determine their
future attitude toward money.
If children are old enough to
earn their Christmas money, but
failed to do so, it can be pointed
out that they will have to plan
better for the next year. Perhaps
there was no warning beforehand
this year.
TINSEL STORY
The story about little spiders and
how they helped trim the tree, is
loved by children.
One Christmas morning after the
tree had been trimmed, is when it
happened, and children were wait
ing to see it. Spiders are very
curious, so they wanted to see the
tree too. Looking at it from the
floor would never do, so they must
see it right up close. The spiders
crept all over the tree until they
had satisfied themselves completely.
Alas! Everywhere they went they
left cobwebs! And when the little
Christ Child came to bless the tree,
He was dismayed. He loved the
little spiders, for they are God’s
creatures too. But He knew the
mother who had trimmed the tree
for the little children wouldn’t feel
the same. So He touched the webs
and they all turned to silver. Ever
since that time, according to the
story, Christmas trees have been
hung with shining tinsel.

Gets Break
A joyous Christmas

ican boys and girls is
the breaking of the
pinata, a decorated
earthen jar.
Sometimes, the pin
ata may be a caricature
of people or animals.
The pinata is sus
pended by a rope that
can raise or lower it.
Each child is blind
folded and usually giv
en three chances to
poke at the pinata with
a stick.
When it’s broken,
the pinata releases a
bounty of delicious
fruits, sweets, nuts and
toys.
The children scrab
ble to claim as many
goodies as possible.

Cookies Add Flavor
To Happy Holidays
C is for cookies The nicest
Christmas trees ever are those
trimmed with garlands of pop
corn and cranberries and home
made cookies. It’s an old-fash
ioned idea that few mothers take
time for any more. Even if you
prefer your tree laden with tin
sel and lights and expensive orn
aments, don’t overlook the joy
of making cookies for Christmas.
It adds a warm and hospitable
aroma to the house and gives
children an inner happiness that
can never be bought or forgotten.
Christmas Candles
Candles always have been as
sociated with Christmas and
many legends give them a place
in the observance of the holiday
In Ireland, for instance, a large
candle was burned on Christmas
Eve, which could be snuffed out
only by one named Mary.
In our country, the settlers
found that the bayberry gave off
a wax that would make fine
candles. It was usually the task
of the children to gather the
berries.
An old verse repeats the tra
dition, that burning a bayberry
candle would insure one of a
long and happy life.
To learn your luck for a year,
they say,
Burn a bayberry dip on Christ
mas Day.
If the flame burns bright and
the light shines clear,
Good-luck will be yours
throughout the year.
