Heat molasses in a heavy sauce pan. Do not allow to boil.
Remove from heat. Add shortening and sugar. Beat well until
shortening has melted. Sift flour, add baking powder, salt soda,
cinnamon, and ginger. Add egg to molasses mixture and mix well.
Wrap in wax paper or foil, chill until firm enough to roll.
Roll out dough on a floured pastry cloth — V4 inch thick. Cut into
"boys” with a gingerbread boy cookie cutter. Decorate with eyes
of black raisins, buttons of split peas and a bow tie of red cherries.
Lay on a greased cookie sheet and bake in a preheated 350
degree oven, approximately 15 minutes. Makes about 15 to 18
boys.

Make attractive gift certificates offering year services during
the coming year. Babysitting, chauffeuring or helping an elderly
friend with gardening.
Buy fruit and pack attractive baskets. Use old baskets and
spray paint them.
Frame your children’s school painting for grandparents.
Gift wrap a promise to a little girl to make an outfit for her
Christmas doll.
Give a potted plant you have brought to bloom this last year.
Use your imagination for a much longer list of inexpensive,
but personal, and welcome gifts.

Tip To Mothers
Here’s a simple mixture with
which youngsters can make
ornaments or what-haveyou:
Mix one part salt and one part
flour with enough water to
make the mixture spongy.
If desired a little dry temp-
ra paint can be added to the
mixture.
After ornaments have dried
for two or three days the can
be colored with water paint
or even varnished.

The Christmas cards that
mean the most and that carry
a message of genuine warmth
are those which you sign your
self — not just with your name

lated directly to the friend who

Deck House And Boughs With Safety
With the time for putting up Christmas decorations at hand,
several suggestions are offered in the interest of safety.
A great peril is to overload electrical circuits. It may not be heavy
enough to blow a fuse but could cause the wire to overheat and melt
insulation.
Strings of lights and extension cords that have been stored could
have deteriorated and should be thoroughly checked.
Further Cautions: Don’t work on strings that are plugged in.
Don’t stretch light strings or extension wiring.
Don’t place flammable material near floodlights.
Keep electrical fixtures out of the reach of children.
Don’t use string lights on a metallic tree.
