You come from a land where the snow lies deep
In forest grand, on mountain steep;
Where the days are short, and the nights are long,
And never a skylark sings his song.
Have you seen the wild deer in his mountain home
And watched the descent of the brown pine cone?

I TOYS DEVELOPED BY
Toys whicti teach as well as amuse are probably the strongest
trend. v
Toymakers today are employing psychologists and other specialists
as designers and making educational toys for children down to and
including infants.
War toys are out. Space toys, however, are in. On sale is an
enormous array of space stations, moon walkers, rocket-launching outfits
and moon globes drawn from actual photographs.
The main trend in dolls continues to be toward realism. Dolls now
not only walk, talk, wet and sleep, but also ride go-carts, grow teeth
speak Spanish and do push-ups.
Art is being stressed and in books the trend is toward experiencing
as well as reading. Plants are sprouting in the form of childrens green
houses.
In sum, today’s toys go far beyond entertaining and actually do
engross the child in constructive activity.

King Kamehameha IV, who
brought so much to Hawaii, also
was responsible for proclaiming
Christmas a national holiday in
1862. It is reported that even
the missionaries were • pleased,
and each group — Americans,
Europeans, and Orientals — cele
brated their own idea of Christ
mas. This independence of ob
servance persists, and one of the
most popular turkey dishes comes
through with a distinctly Ori
ental flavor.
2 cups soy sauce
IVa cups firmly packed light
brown sugar
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon fresh ginger,
grated, or % teaspoon
ground ginger
cup vegetable oil
Vt cup sake or sherry
(optional)
1 10 to 12 pound turkey, cut
into serving size pieces.
Combine soy sauce, brown
sugar, garlic, ginger, oil and
sherry. Pour soy sauce mixture
over turkey pieces in a shallow
pan. Allow to stand for 20 min
utes or more to marinate, turn
ing occassionally. Remove turkey
from marinade and reserve mari
nade. Place turkey pieces on grill
placed about 6 to 8 inches above
hot coals. Grill a total of 1%
hours, or until tender. Brush oc
casionally with reserved mari
nade, as well as turning pieces
occasionally. It’s different, it’s
good, and serves 8 to 10.

sang, this rejoicing has most
often found expression in music
and song.
Now as in earliest times, the
spirit of joy and wonder echoes
anew in the hymns and calors of
Christmas.
Dear Santa Claus:
Letters to the North Pole
come scrawled oneverything
from notebook paper to post
cards to pages torn from color
ing books. Many of them
don’t seem to have the same
spirit that they used to. The
letters are often just lists —
with or without a “please”.
Letter writers often reverse
the addresses and return ad-
drsses on their envelopes. A
post-office must decide where
“North Pole, Alaska” is or
“Santa Claus, North Pole,
USA.”
Joy to the world, it is the
season of Christ’s birth, rich
in love and peace. We wish you a
full share of holiday joy.
