The point is that one of the doctors .of this Associa tion comes to Newberry at re gular intervals to “read” x- rays. This is fine, and I have no objection to it when the ser vice of the radiologist is need ed We have paid for his ser vices on numerous occasions and were glad to do sa. We have also paid when we were not glad to do so because we paid for services neither re quested nor needed. Up to this point, we have simply paid, pe riod, and I am sure a number of others have done the same. A few weeks back, we had a minor emergency in the fa mily one night. We went to the emergency room of the hospi tal and an x-ray was taken by the laboratory personnel. A doc tor was called, he looked at the x-ray, easily took care of the situation and that was that. South Carolina state winner in the National 4-H Con sumer Education-Home Economics, Frances Koon, Po- maria, South Carolina, is congratulated for her outstand ing work in Consumer Education by Edward S. The occasion was a reception and dinner given by Montgomery Ward, sponsors of the National 4-H Con sumer Education-Home Economics program, on Sunday evening, Nov. 29, in Chicago. The event honored national and state winners who were attending the annual Nation al 4-H Congress in Chicago. was anywhere near Newberry. We wrote a polite letter ex plaining the situation and re turning the bill. In reply, we received a form letter telling us that “Consultation of this type is in the best interests of your medical care and, in fact, is required for hospital accre ditation/' The words in bold face were double underlined in the form letter we received. It is my thought that if the hospital accrediting agency rea lized that innocent victims were being gouged by this procedure, it might have some thoughts about withholding accreditation. Before the Hospital’s Board of Trustees start trying to sell the public on a bond issue, this is one little matter that they need to get straightened out. Singers to tour in Southeast The 70-voice Newberry Col lege Singers under the direc tion of Dr. Milton Moore will tour the Southeastern and Mid- dle-Atlantic states again dur ing their annual winter tour from January 31 to February 7, 1971. Concerts have already been arranged for Lutheran chur ches in Haddonfield; Glen Rock, and Vineland in New Jersey; Fayetteville and Salisbury, N. C.; Landsdowne, Pa.; and Nor folk, Va. Other church concerts are being arranged, according to Dr, Moore. The Singers will al so give high school concerts a- long the tour route. Members of churches spon soring the concerts serve as hosts for the Singers by pro viding overnight housing and their evening meal and break fast. This is the second consecu tive Singers tour in the Mid- dle-Atlantic and Southeastern states; they gave ten church and six high school concerts in the region last February. Koch is one of sixteen Newberry College se niors who have been elected to “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.” The honorees, all candidates for their baccalaureate degrees in 1971, were chosen by the Newberry College faculty and students. They were selected on the basis of scholarship, par ticipation in academic and ex tracurricular activities, citizen ship, service to Newberry Col lege and promise of future use fulness. Koch, a sociology major, has been active in atheletics and student government. This year he has served as co-captain of the football team and is the president of the Student Govern ment Association. He is the son of the Rev. and Mrs. John H. Koch, New berry. COUNTY EXTENSION ADVISORY COUNCIL The Newberry County Exten sion Advisory Council will meet Friday, December 4, at 3:00 P.M. in the Ausitorium of the Agricultural Building. All elect ed council members as well as the general public are invited to attend. W. E. Senn, Chair man of the former Newberry County Agriculture Committee will preside at the meeting.
