Department of Agri culture reports that participation in the in the Food Stamp Pro gram in Newberry County slightly decreased during the month of October. Some 311 families with 759 persons received $19,692 worth of USDA food coupons. The re cipients spent $5,556.50 of their own money for the $19,692 worth of food coupons, receiving $14,- 135.50 in coupons free of charge to help increase their food buy ing power. Grocers who have not been authorized cannot accept food coupons. Any bona fide food re tailer in Newberry County who has not applied, but who is in terested in being authorized to accept the coupons should con tact USDA’s Food and Nutri tion Service at Room 406, Pal metto State Life Building, 1310 Lady Street, Columbia, South Carolina, or call 253-8371 ext. 733. Persons from low income fa milies who feel they may be eligible for assistance under the Food Stamp Program should contact their County Public Wel fare Department at 1328 College Street, Newberry, South Caro lina. MOTORCYLISTS MUST GET LICENSE BY MARCH 31 In order to legally operate a motorcycle or any two wheel motor vehicle on South Caro lina streets and highways after March 31, 1971, a person must obtain a special license from the State Highway Department or have a special endorsement placed on his regular driver’s license, according to the South Carolina Highway Department. The examination required in order to obtain this license con sists of knowledge, eye and ac tual driving performance tests. The fee is $2.00 regardless of whether the license is issued for operating a motorcycle on ly or is in the form of an en dorsement on a regular driver’s license. If the license is an en dorsement, the operator’s regu lar license is extended to the person’s birthday in the fourth calendar year following the is suance date. Some 16,000 persons make up South Carolina’s motorcycling population, according to High way Department records. A person wanting to get a motorcycle driver permit should make an appointment with the Highway Department’s driver and motor vehicle license of fice in his locality. The requirement for a spe cial license to operate a motor cycle is one of the 16 uniform standards called for in the 1966 National Highway Safety Act. Inasmuch as a jury venire is to be drawn and summoned for service for the Court of Common Pleas, commencing December 7, the jury commis sioners are ordered and direct ed to summon said venire for service in both the Court of Common Pleas and the Court of General Sessions.
