The coronation ceremony was originally sched uled for the half-time of the Newberry-Guilford football contest, but it took place in the Gymnasium before the game because of rainy weather. GERMANY — Army Specia list Four Robert C. Koon, 21, of Newberry, recently partici pated with his unit, the 4th Ar mored Division, in deep express, a three-week NATO field train ing exercise, in Turkey. Spec. Koon is regularly sta tioned in Germany as a driver in Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion of the Division’s 51st Infantry. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Levi S. Koon, live on Route 3. Board gives free lunch policy The following announcement has been made by the County Board of Education: It is the policy of the New berry County Public Schools to provide lunches free or at a reduced price to those children determined by the school princi pal to be unable to pay the full price for their lunches. The policy provides that an appli cation form be completed and returned to the school. Copies of this form were sent home to parents in November and ad ditional copies may be obtained at the principal’s office in each school. The form is simple to com plete and requests information needed to determine economic need based on the income, num ber of persons in the family, and number of children in schools or service institutions. Additional factors to be consi dered in determining eligibility are illness in the family, un usual expenses, seasonal em ployment, emergency situations, and any unusual circumstances or hardships which affect the family’s ability to pay for school lunches. The information provi ded on the application will be confidential and will be used only for the purpose of deter mining eligibility. Under the provisions of the policy, the Principal is the lo cal official who will make the determination of individual eli gibility. He will use a family size and income scale which the Newberry School District has adopted for use system-wide. If a parent is dissatisfied with the ruling of the Principal he may make a request orally or in writing for a hearing to appeal the decision. The request should be made to Ralph E. Watkins, Jr., District Superintendent, whose address is P. 0. Box 116, Newberry, S. C., 29108. The hearing will be conducted in accordance with the procedures as outlined in the policy state ment. The policy also provides that there will be no identification or discrimination against any student unable to pay the full cost of a lunch. A complete copy of the po licy is on file in each school and in the office of Ralph E. Watkins, Jr., District Superin tendent, where it may be re viewed by any interested pa tron.
