and the communities in Lower
Newberry County will be able
to purchase their tickets at
places to be announced.
The tickets for the special
nights must be purchased by
noon of the day the game is
being played.
WHILE THE FRESHMEN were moving
in to the dormitories at Newberry College
Sunday afternoon, their parents attended
an orientation session in the A. G. D.
Wiles Chapel. Key administrators spoke
to the parents and answered their ques
tions about the College. Participating in
the program were, from left: Dr. Conrad
B. Park, academic dean; Dr. Allen Page,
assistant professor of religion and chair
man of the Orientation Committee; James
Abrams, director of admissions and regis
trar, B. 0. Long, business manager, Albert
Jabs, dean of students, and Dr. A. G. D.
Wiles, president of the College.

CAROLINE SMITH
FURMAN STUDENT
Caroline Bridgers Smith has
been accepted as a member of
the 1970-71 freshman class at
Furman University.
Caroline, the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. C. M. Smith, is a
graduate of Newberry High
School. She was accepted last
fall on the early enrollment ba
sis at Furman for students who
have exceptionally high college
board scores and academic
grades. She also attended the
College Preparatory Course at
Furman in the summer of 1969.
The Furman freshman will
begin orientation on September
13, with classes to begin Sep
tember 21. The eight-day orien
tation will introduce freshmen
to all phases of life at Furman
through special assemblies fea
turing talks by administrators
and student leaders as well as
through seminars and social
get-togethers.
Special Nights
new feature of
college games
When the opening kick-off of
the Newberry College-Emory
and Henry College football con
test Saturday night at New
berry's Setzler Field begins the
1970 football season for the In
dians, Kendall employees will
be there.
This year the College is spon
soring five special nights for
residents and employees of the
largest industrial firms in the
area to sit together in one bloc
of seats and watch the Indians
in action.
The 1,100 employees of the
three Kendall facilities in New
berry are the first group to
participate in the Special Nights.
Kendall has been a part of
Newberry since 1925 when the
company purchased the Oak
land Plant; the Mollohon Plant
was brought into the Kendall
family in 1926. Two years later
the Cotton Purchasing Head
quarters for the textile manu
facturer was established in New
berry.
