G. D. Wiles Chapel. Prior to being elected presi dent of the Theological Semi nary this spring, Dr. Anderson served as Director of Graduate Studies and professor of Church History at the Columbia semi nary. He has also served as the vice-pastor in several Colum bia area Lutheran congrega tions while he has been with the seminary. As an author, Dr. Anderson has written three books, “The Story of the Church,” “The Church Through Twenty Cen turies,” and “Lutheranism in the Southeastern States, 1860- 1886” in addition to numerous magazine articles. Dr. Anderson did his under graduate work at Yale Univer sity, his graduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania, and his theological training at The Lutheran Seminary jn Phil adelphia. Griffith to be Watson chairman Congressman Albert Watson announced today that Newberry attorney, Eugene C. Griffith, will serve as Watson for Gover nor chairman in Newberry County. In making the announcement, Congressman Watson said, ‘Gene Griffith is an outstand ing attorney with many friends throughout Newberry County. I am delighted to have his sup port in my campaign for the highest office in South Caro lina.” Griffith, a former state sena tor from Newberry County, is a graduate of Newberry High School, the University of South Carolina and the University of South Carolina Law School. A veteran of the U. S. Navy, Griffith is a member of the Newberry Jaycees and Lions Club. He is also a member of the Central Methodist Church in Newberry. Griffith is married to the former Anne Bruner of New berry. The couple and their two children, Leanne, 6, and Eu gene Jr., 5, make their home at Griffith Park in Newberry. Hall, 67, of Rt. 1, Prosperity, died Tuesday in Newberry. Bom in Orangeburg County, son of the late Shelly B. and Mattie Horger Hall, he was a retired service station operator and a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Surviving are his wife, Eunice Aurundel Seay Hall, a daughter, Mrs. Charles E. Jolly, Jr. of North Little Rock, Ark.; two sisters. Mrs. W. H. Leaphart of Prosperity and Mrs. Fred G. James of Taylors; and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m today (Thursday) at the Zion Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. ARE AWARDED SCHOLARSHIPS Earl J. Griffith and Frances K. Koon of Pomaria, and Ri chard B. Nelson of Newberry, are three of the eleven freshmen at Newberry College who have been awarded a Lutheran Syno dical Scholarship for their first year of college. Earl is the son of Mr. & Mrs. A. J.
