C., Thursday, Juy 9, 1970—PAGE 5 Miss Brenda Shealy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ashley Jacob Shealy of Route 3, Prosperity, became the bride of James Olin Smith of 1704 College Street, son of Mrs. R. C. Wilson and the late Olin Smith of Route 3, Newberry, on June 20, 1970 at 8:00 p.m. The impressive double ring ceremony was performed in St. Phillips Lutheran Church by the Rev. Clarence G. Walck, Jr. The vows were spoken in a background of palms, altar vases with arrangements of carnations, Gypsophelia and white cattleya orchids, with white tapers glowing in branch ed candelabra. Richard B. Nelson, organist, rendered a program of nuptial selections. Charles Ernest Dukes sang “O Perfect Love”, and ‘‘Wedding Prayer”. Serving as acolytes were Donald Luther Nichols of Sil- verstreet and David Burgess Wardlaw, Jr. of Newberry. Sen ior ushers were Roy Doggett Whitaker, Sr. and Roscoe Cal vin Wilson of Newberry. Ushers were Joseph Wayne Folk, Rich ard Winston Shealy, William Michael Darby, Newberry; Roy Doggett Whitaker, Jr., of Cin cinnati; Phillip Thomas Kelly, II of Columbia, and James Barton Park of Washington, D. C. John Willie Smith was the groom’s best man. Mrs. O’Neal Bickley of Chap in was matron of honor; she is a sister of the bride. Brides maids were Mrs. Richard Win ston Shealy of Newberry, sister- in-law of the bride; Miss Claire Caughman Whitaker of Atlanta and Newberry; Mrs. Roy Dog gett Whitaker, Jr. of Cincin nati; Miss Lynn Roton of New berry, Mrs. Jean Smith Bowers of Lexington, and Miss Cheryl Dianne Ringer of Pomaria. The attendants wore yellow rayon chiffon dresses featuring empire waistline. Their bou quets were of white cattleya orchids. The flower girl wore yellow dotted swiss and car ried a white lace basket of car nation petals. The attractive bride was es corted and given in marriage by her father. She was lovely in a dress of acetate peau with a sabrina neckline. The gown was made on the empire line with a bodice and long sleeves of pearled and scalloped cotton and nylon Chantilly lace im ported from France. The gown swept to a lace encrusted scal loped chapel train. The bride’s veil of white illusion covered her chapel train. Her cascading bouquet was made of white bride’s roses and stephanotis. The mother of the bride wore a dress of pink linen with flow ered embroidery at the neck line. Her corsage was of lav- endar cattleya orchids. The groom’s mother was at tired in a costume of blue silk and linen with roll collar and lace jacket with three-quarter length sleeves. She also wore lavendar cattleya orchids. For a wedding trip to the beach, the bride wore a brown and white A-line dacron poly ester dress with brown and white accessories. Mr. and Mrs. Smith are mak ing their home at 1704 College Street. Mrs. Smith is a graduate of Mid-Carolina High School and is employed at the South Car olina National Bank in New berry. Mr. Smith is a graduate of Newberry High School and of the Cincinnati College of Mor tuary Science. He is employed at Whitaker Funeral Home. RECEPTION The parents of the bride en tertained with a reception im mediately following the wedding in the Church Fellowship Hall. Guests were greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Roy Doggett Whitaker, Sr. and introduced to the re ceiving line by Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Wilson, Jr. After the bride and groom cut the traditional slice of wedding cake, Mrs. John W. Smith and Mrs. Joseph Wayne Folk served the wedding cake to the guests. Mrs. Donald Bowers, Mrs. Guy Williamson and Mrs. William Gibson served punch. The bride’s table was centered with a lovely arrange ment of white and yellow carna tions and Marguerite daisies. Delicious sandwiches nuts, mints and cake were served from the perfectly appointed table. Assis ting with the serving were Miss Marilyn Wilson and Miss Clara Bowers. Mr. and Mrs. David Wardlaw bade the guests good bye and invited them to the home where Mr. and Mrs. Eu gene Shealy entertained. REHEARSAL PARTY The groom’s parents entertain ed the wedding party and in vited guests at a buffet dinner at the Newberry Community Hall. TRANSFERS OF REALTY Newberry No. 1: J.
