C., Thursday, June 4, 1970 Mid-Carolina 1970 Graduating Class Tuesday rites for Mrs. Fowler Mrs. May Wicker Fowler, 71, of Route 1 died Sunday morn ing at Newberry County Mem orial Hospital. A life-long resi dent of Newberry County, she was a daughter of the late H. Monroe and Tommie K i n a r d Wicker. She was a retired em ployee of J. P. Stevens Co. and a member of Beth-Eden Luth eran Church. Surviving are a son, Raymond Fowler of Columbia; a daugh ter, Mrs. Edna Mae Baldyga of Louisville, Ky.; two sisters, Mrs. Louise Rudisill of Pom- aria and Mrs. Margaret Pruitt of Clearwater; two brothers, John Henry and Lake Wicker, both of Pomaria; seven grand children and two great-grand children. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 3 p.m. from Beth- Eden Lutheran Church with the Rev. Paul Hatch conducting. Burial followed in Rosemont. Cemetery. Mrs. Sutton, 72 dies Sunday Mrs. Rebecca “Becky” Sligh Suttcn, 72, wife of S. Frank Sutton, died Sunday at Newber ry Memorial Hospital after a lingering illness. Mrs. Sutton was born in this county, the daughter of the late R. C. and Frances Kinard Sligh. She was a member of the Luth eran Church of the Redeemer and a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a graduate of Chicora Col lege. Besides her husband she is survived by a step-daughter, Mrs. Frances Hallman of Aik en: one sister. Miss fiussie ONE YEAR OLD: Tony C. Chapman, II celebrated his first birthday May 21, 1970. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tony C. Chapman. Paternal grandparent is Mrs. Ben Chapman of Newberry. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. L. Andrew White of West Columbia. Mrs. Chap man is the former Miss Margaret Wallace of West Colum bia. Sligh of Newberry, one brother, George B. Sligh of Evansville, Indiana. Funeral services were con ducted at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home by Dr. H. A. McCullough. Inter ment was in Rosemont ceme tery. Luther Collier dies in Union Luther Monzal Collier, 44, of Whitmire, died Monday in Un ion. He was owner of Big Boy Truck Stop, a member of Beth- esda Baptist Church, a Mason and a Hejaz Shriner. Among his survivors are the following sisters who live in Newberry: Mrs. Peggy Dowdy, Mrs. Marie Nobles, Mrs. Bar bara Stribble and Mrs. Linda Haskins. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Whitaker Funeral Home. Attending Boys State at The Citadel this week are four students from Newberry High School and two from Mid-Carolina.
