The Newberry Sun, Newberry, S. C., Thursday, May 7, 1970—PAGE 5 ONE YEAR OLD: Michael Wayne Whitesides, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Whitesides of West Columbia, was one year old April 21. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Paul Whitaker of Newberry, and paternal grand parents are Mr, and Mrs. J. W. Whitesides, Sr. of Orange burg. His mother is the former Miss Paulette Whitaker of Newberry. Harlie Anne Hunter, daughter of Lt. and Mrs. Harold H. Hunter, Jr., of Belleville, 111. celebrated her first birth day May 2. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. “Bob” Creekmore of Newberry, and Paternal grandpar ents are Mr. and Mrs. Harold H. Hunter of Silverstreet. Maternal great-grandparent is Mr. 0. L. Cook, Sr., of Newberry. Paternal great-grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Allen Hunter, Sr., of Prosperity and Mrs. Annie Werts of Silverstreet. Mrs. Hunter is the former Miss Robbie Anne Creekmore of Newberry. Chevy names car “Vega 2300” Chevrolet took to the sky to reveal the name of its new small car. The name is “Vega 2300”. “Vega is the name of one of the brightest stars visible from the earth and often is called the ‘arc light of the sky’, ” ex plained John Z. DeLorean, Chev rolet general manager. “The ‘2300’ applies to the cubic centimeters displacement of the lightweight overhead cam engine which is one of the uni que features of the new car.” Because the name came from the sky, Chevrolet introduced it from the air. A helicopter cir cled the Detroit skyline pulling a block letter sign announcing that ‘Chevy Names It Vega 2300.” DeLorean said the name for the new car Chevrolet will in troduce later this summer— formerly codenamed XP-887— “symbolizes the high expecta tions we have that the Vega 2300 will become the brightest star in the fast-growing small car world. “We are confident that this all-new small car, built in Amer ica to satisfy the changing life styles of American people, will dramatically improve Chevro let’s competitive position and spark an overall resurgence of the domestic auto industry.” The Vega 2300 will come in four different two-door models: a hatchback coupe, a sedan, a station wagon and a little panel truck.
