VIETNAM - Jerry L. O’Don
ald, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles
H. O’Donald, 2026 Rivers St.,
was promoted to Army special
ist five while serving with the
101st Airborne Division (Air
mobile) in Vietnam.
A helicopter repairman with
Headquarters Company of the
division’s 2d Brigade, he enter
ed the Army in May 1968 and
completed basic training at Ft.
Campbell, Ky. He has received
the Bronze Star Medal, Purple
Heart and the Army Commen
dation Medal.
The promotion was made on
March 4.
VIETNAM — Army Private
Willie F. Cannon, 20, son of
Mrs. Corrie M. Cannon, 1722
Drayton St., was assigned as a
carpenter with the 20th Engi
neer Brigade in Vietnam on
March 8.
KOREA — Army Staff Ser
geant Clarence H. Dixon, whose
wife, Golda, lives at 627 Hill
St., was assigned as an instruct
or with the 2nd Infantry Divi
sion in Korea March 6.
FT. WOLTERS - Warrant
Officer Candidate Thomas S.
Richardson, 20, son of Mrs.
Margaret D. Richardson, Route
3, Prosperity, completed a heli
copter pilot course Feb. 13 at
the Army Primary Helicopter
School, Ft. Wolters, Texas.
During the 16-week course, he
was trained to fly Army heli
copters and learned to use them
in tactical maneuvers.
He next will undergo advanc
ed flight training at the Army
Aviation School, Ft. Rucker,
Ala. Upon completion of the
advanced training he may be
appointed a warrant officer.
WOC Richardson entered the
Army in June 1969 and com
pleted basic training at Fort
Polk, La. He was graduated
from Mid-Carolina High School
in 1967..
KEY WEST - Navy Petty
Officer Third Class Ronnie M.
Bedenbaugh, son of Mr. and
Mrs. William G. Bedenbaugh of
635 Preston St. has completed
S-2 “Tracker” Aircraft Train
ing Course at the Naval Air
Station, Key West, Fla.
BILOXI — Airman First Class
John L. Rockholz, son of Mr.
and Mrs. William L. Rockholz
of Norwalk, Conn., has grad
uated with honors at Keesler
AFB, Miss., from the training
course for U. S. Air Force air
traffic controllers.
Airman Rockholz, who was
trained in airport traffic con
trol, is returning to his Con
necticut Air National Guard un
it at McEntire ANG Base.
A 1965 graduate of Brien Mc
Mahon High School, the airman
received his B. S. degree in
education in 1969 from the Un
iversity of South Carolina where
he was a member of Pi Epsilon
Mu.
His wife, Janice, is the daugh
ter of Mrs. Novice C. Stone,
1223 Jones Street, this city.
USS GUAM — Navy Airman
Michael H. Perkins, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Harold C. Perkins of
Route 3, and husband of the
former Miss Marie Caldwell of
524 Main St., participated in
rocket recovery operations
while serving aboard the am
phibious assault ship USS Guam
in the Atlantic.
The rockets, equipped with
photographic and radiation de
tection instruments were
launched from Wallons Island,

Va., as part of the National
Aeronautics and Space Agency
solar eclipse research.
Thomas Charles Zobel and
Bertha Diane Longshore, New
berry were married March 2.
George David Wedaman and
Linda Ruth Long of Pomaria
were married at Pomaria on
March 3.
Allen Walker Morrison and
Jonelle DeHart of Newberry
were married here March 21.
Luther Paul Fesperman of
Newberry and Debra Addy
Monts of Columbia were mar
ried in Columbia March 17.
