West, owner of West Electrical Service and West Marine Center, announced as a candidate for County Council for Newberry County District Num ber 2 in the June 9th Primary election. West, who has been active in civic affairs of the county, is Governor of Moose Lodge No. 2211 in Newberry. He is a mem ber of the Newberry Jaycees, Newberry County Development Board and is a past member of the Newberry Exchange club. He is a Captain in the Army Reserves on an inactive status. The candidate is a graduate of Newberry High School and of Palmetto Mililtary Academy. He was born on February 2, 1938 and reared in Newberry County, the son of Mrs. Gertie M. West Donald of Newberry and the late J. B. West. He is a member of First Baptist Church. West is married to the form er Peggie Smith of Cameron. They are parents of two daugh ters, Misty, 4 years of age and Brandy, age 3. The West fam ily resides on the Winnsboro highway near Newberry.
