PAGE 4—The Newberry Sun, Newberry, S. C., Thursday, January 29, 1970 A lovely nuptial event took place on December 27, 1969 at 6 p.m. in Hollands United Meth odist Church of Raleigh, N. C. when Miss Linda Carol Man- gum, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Lester Mangum of Ral eigh, became the bride of Mr. William (Billy) Collins Wood, II, son of the Rev. and Mrs. William Collins Wood of Lex ington, N. C. A double ring ceremony was performed by the groom’s fath er, Rev. Wood, and the bride's pastor, the Rev. Nelson Ful- ford. Pastor Wood is a former past or of the Bethlehem Lutheran Parish and lived with his fam ily in Pomaria for about four years. Escorted to the altar by her father, the bride wore an ori ginal gown of white peau-de- satin and Alencon lace, feat uring a Victorian collar, em pire waistline and scalloped sat in train. Lace accented with seed pearls trimmed the train as well as the scalloped hem of the dress. Scalloped sleeves and bodice were also of Alen con lace. A four-tiered, finger tip veil of white illusion was attached to a white organdy headpiece and trimmed with lace and seed pearls. Along with a white handker chief which had belonged to the groom’s maternal grand mother. the late Mrs. Charles Howell, the bride carried three long-stemmed roses and a sat in-covered prayer book more than two hundred years old, an heirloom of the Landkrohn fam ily. Following communion, the bride presented her mother and the groom’s mother each with a rose from her bouquet. Miss Barbara Ann Mangum attended her sister as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Charles A. Hauser of Morgan- ton and Miss Patsy R. Seamon of Kannapolis. Tney w o r e floor-length dresses of w h i t e crepe with red velvet bodices featuring ruffled necklines and short sleeves. Alencon lace ac cented the empire waistlines trimmed at the back with red velvet bows. Red velvet also trimmed their short red veils of illusion. Each carried a white poinsettia on a red velvet muff. Best man was Mr. John Rob ert Wood, brother of the groom. Ushering were Mr. Charles A. Hauser and Mr. Michael Yarn of Columbia. Included in the recital of nup tial music presented by Mrs. Helen Woosley of Pfafftown, N. C. were. Bach’s Prelude in C Minor, Suite Gothique Op. 25 by Boellman, Teleman’s Vat- er unser Im Himmelreich, and Handel’s Air from Water Mus ic. The Rev. Mr. Wood, baritone, sand Gounod’s “Entreat Me Not to Leave Thee,” (Song of Ruth); and Miss Lelia Summers of Julian, N. C., a soprano, sang “The Greatest of These Is Love” by Roberta Bitgood. Purcell’s Trumpet Voluntary” was used for the processional and Marcello’s “Psalm XIX” for recessional. Miss Cathy Myers of Clem mons, N. C. presided at the guest register. The bride's mother wore a pink brocade street-length dress featuring an empire waistline, accented with a pink satin bow at the back, and she also wore a corsage of white orchids. The mother of the groom wore a street-length dress of ivory silk shantung featuring an A-lihe skirt with a fitted waist line accented by gold buttons joined by a gold chain. Her cor sage was of white orchids. The bride, an honor graduate of Garner High School, Garner, N. C., class of ’66, is a senior student of nursing at Lenoir Rhyne College and a member of Santa Filomena honorary nursing society and Chi Beta Phi, an honorary science frat ernity. The groom a West Forsyth High School honor graduate, is a member of Chi Beta Phi frat ernity and also of Mu Sigma Epsilon, an honorary scholastic fraternity, and was recently graduated magna cum laude from Lenoir Rhyne College wdth an A. B. degree. Mr. Wood plans to continue his education for the ministry at Southern Lutheran Theological Seminary in Columbia. Following a honeymoon trip to western North Carolina, the couple is residing at 106 S. And erson Street, Morganton, N. C. Out of town guests included Mrs. W. C. Koon of Pomaria. A cake cutting ceremony took place following the rehearsal at the home of the bride’s parents on December 26. A red and white color scheme was used with table decorations of red and white carnations featuring a white, tiered wedding cake. STUDENTS STUDY AT WOFFORD Students at Wofford College have begun their annual one month of independent study. The month of January has been set aside as the Interim be tween the two regular 4-month semesters in which a student selects one project for concen trated and in-depth study. Mrs. Dawkins is the former Janie Harmon of the O’Neal Community. They are mem bers of the Central Methodist Church of Newberry. The cou ple has three children, Ben F.
