PAGE 6—The Newberry Sun, Newberry, S. C., Thursday, January 22,1970 Miss Barbara Anderson, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hen ry Anderson, became the bride of Mr. Ken C. Riebe, son of Mr. and Mrs. K. W. Riebe, on Sunday. December 21. The double ring ceremony took place at 3:00 at the A.G.D. Wiles Chapel, with the bride’s uncle. Reverend F. Clyde Helms of Charlottesville, Virginia, of ficiating. Reverend Helms mar ried the bride’s parents twenty- one years ago in November. An appropriate setting was created for the nuptials with altar arrangements of white mums, glads and carnations; also, glowing candles in two candelabra entwined with green ery. Mr. Karl Kinard, organist, provided lovely nuptial music. Acolytes were Bobby and Tommy Weir, cousins of the bride. Ushers were Biff Riebe, bro ther of the bridegroom and Andy Bryan from Spartanburg, cousin of the bride. The father of the bridegroom served as best man. Miss Sandra Wood kept the register. Mrs. David Hendrix was ma tron of honor. She wore a for mal gown of red velvet, and carried a white mum with matching ribbon. Miss Elaine Riebe, sister of ihe bridegroom, was maid of honor. She wore a formal gown of green velvet and also car ried a white mum with match ing ribbon. The bride was escorted and given in marriage by her fath er. She wore a formal A-line gown of jubclante crape, feat uring long lace sleeves and high lace neck trimmed with pearls. The gown was hand made by the bride’s grand mother. The bouffant veil of illusion fell from a dainty pearl crown. She carried an orchid attached to a white Bible with cascading ribbons. The bride’s mother wore a green brocade street-1 e n g t h dress with matching coat and matching accessories. She also wore a white double carnation corsage. The bridegroom’s mother was attired in an aqua dress and jacket with jewel trim. She also wore a white double carnation corsage. After the wedding the bridal party received guests in the vestibule of the chapel. Before leaving for a wedding trip to Pawley’s Island, the bride changed into a green bonded dress with black acces sories and added the orchid corsage from her Bible. The bride is a 1967 graduate of Newberry High School and is employed with Central Soya, Inc. of Newberry. The bridegroom is a 19 6 6 graduate of Newberry High School and is a senior at New berry College. He is employed part-time with Owens-Illinois. The couple is residing at 933& Cline Street. Shower Given A miscellaneous shower was given for Miss Anderson Nov ember 29 at the Bush River Fire Station. The hostesses were Mrs. David Hendrix, Mrs. Jack ie Campbell, Mrs. Larry Gil liam, Mrs. Ted Hendrix and Mrs. Harold Bouknight. Deli cious refreshments were served and the bride-to-be was given bathroom scales. About thirty guests attended. MISS PHILLIPS, MR. PARK WED Mr. and Mrs. James M. Phil lips of Carrboro, N. C. announce the marriage of their daughter, Sharon Wiley Phillips, to George Bennet Park of Newberry. The wedding took place on January 17, 1970 at St. Martin’s Luth eran Church, Albemarle, N. C. with the immediate families in attendance. The Reverend Karl M. Park, uncle of the groom and pastor of St. Martin’s, per formed the ceremony. The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Conrad B.Park of this city. Bluebirds are club subject The Newberry Garden Club met at the home of Mrs. R. E. Livingston, Jr. with Mrs. Seth Meek as associate hostess on Tuesday morning, January 13. On arrival the members were invited into the dining room for refreshments. The president, Mrs. Price Padgett, opened the meeting with the Club Collect. She then turned the meeting over to Mrs. Jimmy Coggins who presented a program, “How to Save the Bluebird”. The bluebird has be gun to make a comeback to this section due to interest in their nesting and feeding hab its being shown by many peo ple. Bluebirds like to nest in man-made houses about 100 yards apart and set on the lev el of fenceposts. They particu larly like to be close to poke berries, honeysuckle, holly and locusts. They also seem to like to be near a stream, river or take. One house in particular, the Duncan House, seems to at tract them. During the business, the nom inating committee gave its re port. Mrs. Clem Youmans will serve as President for 1970-71. The members were remind ed of the * Garden Symposium to be presented by the Garden Club of S. C. in cooperation with the University of South Carolina on January 30 and 31 at the Capstone House and the Russell House. Mrs. J. Donald Rook will introduce Mi's. John T. Walthall who will address the group of “The Heritage We Guard”. The Newberry High School Chorus with Miss Sallylou Wes- singer as Director will perform at the morning sessions on Jan- uary_31st. COUNCIL ON AGING TO BE FORMED An organizational meeting of the Newberry County Council on Aging is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5 in the Speers St. elementary School Cafetorium. The public is in vited and urged to attend. CHARLESTON - Marine Corporal Henry L. Cannon of Prosperity is serving at Mar ine Barracks, Naval Weapons Station, Charleston. VIETNAM - Army Private First Class Lyndsey C. Foster, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wil liam H. Foster, Route 1, Sil- verstreet, was assigned Decem ber 9 to the 1st Logistical Com mand in Vietnam, as a mech anic. Mr. and Mrs. Gerhardt Paul Kreher, 686 Geneva Place, Tam pa, Florida, announce the en gagement of their daughter, Carol Jean, to Lewis Traywick Duffie, son of The Reverend Doctor and Mrs. George Sum mers Duffie, Senior, of New berry, South Carolina. The wed ding will take place on Satur day, March 28th, at the First Presbyterian Church, Tampa, Florida. Miss Kreher received her Bachelor’s Degree in Journal ism at the University of Georgia in June, 1969. She was a mem ber of Kappa Delta Social Soro rity and Vice-President of Gam ma Alpha Chi (advertising frat ernity for women). Currently, she is a copywriter for William Reed and Associates, Inc., in Clearwater, Florida. Mr. Duffie received his Bach elor of Arts degree from Wof ford College in June 1969. Fol lowing summer encampment, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U. S. Army. While at Wofford he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsi lon Social Fraternity. Mr. Duf fie is a first year student in the School of Law at the Uni versity of South Carolina. Following the wedding, the couple will make their home in Columbia.
