The Newberry Sun, Newberry, S. C., Thursday, January 15,1970—PAGE 3 NEWBERRY COLLEGE was one of the South Caro lina educational and medical institutions, churches, re search and other organizations which shared grants from the Self Foundation in Greenwood during 1969. The $10,000 gift to the College will be used in the 1969 second Century Campaign. In all the foundation gave over $377, 500 in 1969 to various institutions. Newberry’s President A G.. D. Wiles, right, discusses the grant with James Self, the president of the Foundation. 4 C of C members at meeting The Drayton Rutherford and Calvin Crozier Chapters of the U.D.C. held a joint meeing in the Fellowship Hall of the ARP Church on Tuesday, Jan. 6. Hostesses were Mrs. G. N. Clarkson, Mrs. T. H. Pope, Mrs. L. C. Floyd, Mrs. W. C. Arm- field, Mrs. L. D. Nichols, Mrs. T. P. Crooks, Mrs. Phil Brooks, Mrs. W. W. Parr, Mrs. H. M. Bryson, Mrs. A. H. Counts and Mrs. Roy Whitaker. The meeting was opened by Mrs. W. H. Tedford, vice presi dent of Calvin Crozier. The flags were borne into the Hall by Er win Baker, Marc Renwick and Michael Cousins. Miss Sallie Lee Cromer led the Pledge and the Salutes to the Flags and also was in charge of the program on the lives of Lee and Jackson. She introduced Mary Baker, who sang the Confederacy song, "Lorena” accompanied by Con nie Farb. Margie McAlhany and Catherine Baker recited a poem, “The Sword of Lee”, after which Miss Cromer introduced mem bers of the Children of the Con federacy in attendance, and then gave some incidents and stories from the lives of Lee and Jack- son. Mrs. R. B. Baker gave an art icle on “Is There Still a South?” After the meeting was closed with the singing of Dixie and a prayer by Mrs. Baker, the hos- esses invited the members and visitors to the tea table. Mrs. Bryson and Miss Cromer poured tea at each end of the table which was centered with a four branched silver candela bra holding white candles and an arrangement of red and white camellias with leather leaf fern.
