Whitener, Whitmire Mrs. Rebecca Williams, Silver street Samuel Wilson, City DRAYTON SCHOOL GYM BE USED The Newberry Recreation De partment has secured permis sion to use the old Drayton St. School Gym as a Recreation Center. “A wide variety of recreat ional programs will be conduct ed on this site, and we urge all citizens, both young and old, to take part in our programs,” said Rudolph Caldwell, director of the Vincent Street Youth Cen ter. Mr. Caldwell said that acti vities utilizing the gym will be gin Saturday, January 10, in the form of a Senior Teen Record Hop from 8 until 11 p.m. Other programs will be an nounced in the near future, Mr. Caldwell said. TO PREACH AT WILES CHAPEL Sunday morning chapel ser vices in the A.G.D. Wiles Chapel on the NewberryCollege cam pus will resume this Sunday at 11:15 a.m. with the Rev. L. W. Mitcham, Jr., as the g u e s \ speaker. The Rev. Mitcham, a grad uate of Lenoir Rhyne College in Hickory, N. C., is currently the Executive Secretary of Ed ucation and Youth Ministry for the South Carolina Synod of the Lutheran Church in America. His offices are in Columbia. Prior to assuming his present position, he was the pastor of Faith Lutheran Church in New berry from 1966 to 1968 and as sistant pastor of Reformation Lutheran Church in Columbia from 1963-66. New Addresses Col. and Mrs. Lindsay Halt newcomers to the city, are mak ing their home at 1230 McMor- ris Street. Mr. and Mrs. David Reiter are residing in Apartment 4 of Oak Hall Apartments on Nance Street. R. L. Boozer dies suddenly Robert Lawson (Bob) Boozer. 52, died suddenly at his resi dence Thursday night. Mr. Boozer was bom in New berry, the son of the late John Reuben and Nancy Elmire Ox- ner Boozer. He was a member of Central Methodist Church, a former employee with the U. S. Post Office in Newberry, and a veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Kate McAllister Boozer; one daughter, Miss Kathryn McAllister Boozer of Concord, N. C.; four sisters, Mrs. Frank P. Hill of Signal Mountain, Term., Miss Mabel Boozer and Miss Frances Boo zer, both of Newberry, and Mrs. Ralph A. Creswell of Mc Cormick. Funeral services were con ducted at 4:30 Saturday at the Central Methodist Church by Dr. Gorge S. Duffie and Dr. Neil Truesdell. Interment was in Rosemont Cemetry. Active pallbearers were Ray Nobles, Neal Davis, Buddy Sligh, Frank Hill, Johnny Booz er, Harry Moose, Sr., Lewis Lipscomb, and Frank Gilfillan. Honorary pallbearers were employees of the U. S. Post Of fice, Ralph Creswell, Tommy C. Moose, Harry Moose, Jr., Sam Bums, Archie Smith, Sr., Arch ie Smith, Jr., Dr. E. J. Dickert and Charles Dukes. Williams dies in Virginia David Merle Williams, 66, died Monday in a naval hospital in Norfolk, Va. Bom in Saluda County, he was a son of the late Pritchard and Mary Jane Riser Williams. He had served 30 years in the U. S. Navy. Survivng are three brothers, Henry Williams of Spindale, N. C., Bennie Williams of Newber ry and Earl Williams of Pros perity; and a sister, Mrs. Min nie W. Davenport of Prosperity. Funeral services were held at McSwain Funeral Home on Wednesday. Burial was in New berry Memorial Gardens. F. F. Livingston service Monday Fred F. Livingston, 83, died Sunday morning at the Colum bia Hospital after an illness of several months. He had been in declining health for several years. He was bom and reared in Newberry County and was the son of the late George A. and Alice Kinard Livingston. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, former mem ber of the Church Council, form er Treasurer of the church and president of the Men’s Bible Class. Mr. Livingston was re tired superintendent of the As sociation of the Blind in Col umbia. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Albert Richardson, Pom aria, Mrs. Ethel L. Wicker, New berry, and Mrs. Georgia Rich ardson, Prosperity; seven neph ews and one niece. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at his church with Rev. Harold F. Fuller con ducting. Interment was in the church cemetery. Rites held or Mrs. Buford Mrs. Clara Reighley Buford, 78, widow of the late Pope L. Buford, Sr., died early Thurs day morning at her residence, 2304 Main Street, after several months illness. Mrs. Buford was bom and reared in Newberry County and was the daughter of the late William L. and Mary Lominack Reighley. She was a member of Central Methodist Church, of the Goldn Age Fellowship, Cir cle 3, WSCS and the Columbia College Club. Surviving are two sons, Pope L. Buford, Jr., and William R. Buford, both of Newberry; one grandson, Pope L. Buford, III, Newberry; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon from the Mc Swain Funeral Home with Rev. George S. Duffie conducting the service. Interment was in Rose mont cemetery. Active pallbearers were Hey ward Sease, Elmer Kunkle, Frazier Lominack, Frank Lom inack, Jr., Marvin Rucker, R.E. Livingston and Alan Reighley. WARNED TO WATCH FOR FALSE AGENTS Taxpayers should watch out for unscrupulous individuals pos ing as IRS employees to extort money on the pretense of satis fying unpaid taxes, H. M. Mc Leod, District Director of In ternal Revenue for South Caro lina, cautioned. McLeod said all bonafide em ployees of the Internal Revenue Service who contact the public carry distinctive identification. Ask to see these credentials if the person who claims to be an IRS employee approaches you and does not identify himself, Holding a bass by the lower jaw normally paralyzes it.
