Members are selected on the basis of scholarship, character, lead ership and service to the college and com munity. Koch, Jr., 1307 Drayton St. United Fund response poor Newberry County’s 1969-1970 United Fund Campaign has just passed the midway point of its $37,000 goal. This report was given to the Fund’s Board of Directors at a special meeting last week. Campaign Chairman Jack Raffield expressed disappoint ment that the response to the drive has been “very poor”. “While many of our divisions have not completed their work”, he said, “it appears doubtful that we will accomplish the goal for this year. The campaign is now in its fifth week and most probably we will not receive more than five or six thousand dollars more than we already have reported.” Mr. Raffield praised the Fin ancial Division, which was head ed by Frank Addy, which has oversubscribed its goal nearly 300 percent. Also it appeared that the Industrial Division will surpass its goal when all re ports are in. Anyone who has not been con tacted and who wishes to make a contribution to the United Fund is urged to call the Fund office, 276-4274, and a pledge card will be sent to them, Mr. Raffield said. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. James Mishoe conducting the service. Interment was in the church cemetery. VIETNAM — Army Private First Class Ronnie S. Kinard, 21, son of Mrs. Herman Kinard, Route 3, Prosperity, was assign ed as a member of the 1st Logis tical Command in Vietnam on October 3. Pitts George Elmer Pitts, 44, died late Friday afternoon from in juries he received when his motorcycle hit a dog near Chap pells. Mr. Pitts was bom and rear ed in this county, the son of Mrs. Marie Epting Pitts and the late L. Floyd Pitts, Sr. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church; a veteran of the Korean War and was a tim ber jack operator for Pitts Lum ber Company. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Dorothy H. Pitts, Silverstreet; his mother, Mrs. Marie Pitts; four brothers, James Reeder Pitts, Henderson, N. C., Len- nard F. Pitts, Jr., Westbrook, Maine, Grady Lee Pitts, Spar tanburg, Billy L.
