Eight engines are available in the intermediate series, from the 225 six-cylinder to the 426- cubic-inch hemi. The Plymouth Compact line up for 1970 features two all-new entries. Joining the economy champ Valiant four-door sedan is a new racy-looking two-door coupe, the Duster, and an at tractively priced new perform ance competitor—the Duster 340 . —to bring to three the number of compacts to choose from. The distinctive new coupe body style of the Duster and Duster 340 features tip-open rear quarter window glass similar to the Road Runner’s and vent less front door glass. The basic Duster has a new 198-inch six-cylinder engine. All- new interiors include high back bucket seats with integral head restraints and wood grain instrument panel with con- venient rallye cluster. The performance tape stripe on the body side is exclusive to GTX. A new 440-cubic-inch 6 barrel V-8 is optional, as is the famed 426 cubic-inch hemi engine. Plymouth offers for 1970 the most versatile new model line up in its history, with a freshly restyled and realigned full-size Fury series, an improved Road R u n n e r-inspired intermediate line, a new model in the com pact series, the Valiant Duster, and a totally-new Specialty-per formance Barracuda. All Ply- mouths went on sale September 23. “The 1970 line is indicative of Plymouth’s effort to create truly outstanding product offer ings in every market segment, C. M. Smith of Smith Motor Company said. “Never before have we gone into a new model year with such strength in each model we offer for sale. We are very enthusiastic about Plymouth’s outlook for 1970’,’ he added. The Fury, Plymouth’s volume leader, presents the big, bold look with major restyling of the front and rear. The major news in the model realignment is the establishment of a new kind of Sport Fury as Plymouth’s prem ium series for 1970. Sport Fury expands to include four-door se dan and four-door hardtop mod els in addition to the sport and formal two-door hardtops, two new models, the S-23 and high performance GT—and an option al luxury Brougham package. In the station wagon series, the premium Sport Suburban has concealed headlights and a special grille. Also, rear speak ers ‘ are offered for the first time on wagon models in 1970 Six engines are available in the Fury line, from the econ omical 225-cubic-inch six cylind er to the new special high per formance 440-cubic-inch, six-bar rel engine option for Sport Fury GT. Plymouth’s very popular 16- car intermediate line, which includes Belvedere, Satellite, Sport Satellite, Road Runner, and GTX, receives exterior and interior improvements, and more optional equipment. Plymouth’s mid-size perform ance models, Road Runner and GTX, introduce even more in novative options to satisfy the very special interests of the growing legions of performance enthusiasts. The front ends on the intermediates have restyled grilles, hoods and fenders. The rear ends have been restyled and the body side appearance is new from the belt-line down. Road Runner and GTX intro duce a new very powerful, yet attractively priced engine op tion. First introduced in mid- 1969 on a limited basis only, the new 440-cubic inch, six bar rel high compression engine, rated at 390 horsepower, is avail able as a regular 1970 option.
