President Kinard of the New
born Academy has announced
the appointment by the Board
of Directors of Miss Margaret
Paysmger to teach Latin next
\ear m tile ninth grade. This
is part of the curriculum that
has been approved looking to
the addition of a grade e a e h
year until there arc 1 twelve.
Miss Paysmger will offer the
Latin course on a schedule that
will fit into her regular work on
the Newberry College faculty.
She i" a graduate of the College
and has her master’s degree

to be held this month concern
ing the public school survey re
cently completed
The meetings will all be at

berry High. August 14; Whit
mire High. August 1!) and Mid-
Carolina High. August 21
All interested citizens are urg
ed to attend any or all of these
meetings.

Folk musical
received with
enthusiam
An enthusiastic standing-
room-only crowd heard the folk
musical, “Tell It Like It Is”
at Wiles Chapel Sunday night.
Remembering the experience
of last year, w r hen most of the
mane group of young people pre
sented “Good News", many ar
rived at the Chapel early to be
sure of having good seats, and
long before 8 p.m. starting time
most seats were taken and the
crowd was still flowing into the
lobby of the chapel.
The spontaneous applause giv
en the director, Rev. J. Ander
son Bass, and the young people
at the conclusion of the musical,
was proof that whatever incon
veniences were suffered by the
crowding were well worthwhile.
The young singers and instru
mentalists—some 80 of t h e m
from 17 churches in the New
berry area—had been practic
ing for over six weeks getting
the musical ready for product
ion
A few lucky persons had a
“sneak preview ", as the group
sang several selections from the
musical at a recent meeting of
the Kiwanis Club, and at Sun
day night summer worship ser-
vices at Presbyterian Camp Fel
lowship on Lake Greenwood on
July 20.
Fresh from their performance
at Wiles Chapel, the group now
is looking forward to presenting
the musical at Fort Mill Sun
day evening.
Rev. Bass and the young peo
ple many of whom gave up
camps and vacations in order
to be in the musical, have re
ceiv'd extensive congratulations
for the excellent performance
Sunday night.

the Community Hall.
