Committee of Grand Jury gives report The committee on Schools of the Newberry County Grand Jury made a report this week during General Sessions Court to Honorable Francis Nicholson, presiding judge. Members of the committee are Clyde N. Lake, chairman; Car- roll M. Brehmer, Elmer R. Bak er and Henry M. Kunkle, Sr. The report, in its entirety, fol lows: Bush River School: Outside boxings need repairing and painting. Reuben Elementary School: Celotex in hallway needs repair ing. Leaks in Gymnasium need to be fixed. Boys and girls rest room fixtures need painting. Need top soil in yard. Speer Street School: Repair stalls in toilets, doors need to be repaired and painted in rest rooms. Boundary Street School: Boys and girls rest rooms need to be repaired, painting of fixtures in rest rooms. Silverstreet School (New build ing): Metal doors have rusted, need painting. Walkways need painting. Windows in rest rooms need painting. Windows need painting on outside. Gymnasium: Some tile needs replacing in halls and rooms. Library needs to be painted over the heating unit. The wall near the door of library needs paint ing. Shingles need replacing. Crown molding and boxings need to be repaired. Metal strips should be installed. Win dows and doors outside need painting. Auditorium: The wall on north east side should be painted. Need topsoil in yard. Hand rail should be installed in front of auditorium. Lunchroom: Refrigerator needs to be elevated up to about six inches. These improvements are necessary. Park Street: Cafeteria porch ceiling is rusting, needs paint ing. Awning on mobile unit need to be fixed. Freezers in cafe teria need to be put on casters to meet county health specifi cations. Carver: Tile on floor and hall needs repair. Stall in boys rest room need fixing. Lock on lib rary door needs to be replaced. Curtain for stage needed. Vents on side of building need to be repaired. Couple pieces of Celo tex needs replacing. Glass need ed in windows. Whitmire High: Class room in basement floods everytime it rains. Drains outside are stop ped up and need opening. Build ing needs painting inside. Gym floor needs sanding and refinish ing. Plaster on auditorium ceil ing needs repair. Girls and boys bathrooms need complete reno vation. Fence around Little League ball park needs repair ing. Garmany: Playground in bad need of top soil. Most of the building needs painting. Pomaria: Paint two rooms and repair floor in one room down stairs. Repair floors in three upstairs class roms. Rikard: Six rooms need paint ing. Window glasses need re placing. Yard needs top soil. Mid-Carolina: Leaks in roof. Prosperity: Rooms need paint in both buildings. Little Mountain: Cafeteria needs painting. Junior High: Ground should be topsoiled. Lunchroom needs painting. Supply room should have fire-proof ceiling. Leak in upstairs classroom. Newberry High: Auditorium has leaks. Paint needed in cor ridors. Drayton Street: To be closed. Gallman: Ground should be cleaned up and topsoiled. Ceil ing tile needs to be replaced. Auditorium has large cracks in walls; is considered dangerous. The committee recommended that steps be taken to improve conditions listed in its report.
